Book Hauls!

Saw this on Amazon and had to have it:

There's a slight discoloration over Lillian Hellman's name. Don't know why but somebody put one of those annoying UPC stickers right there. Why not the back or the spine or even the inside cover. Took me about 20 minutes of careful scraping with a small knife to get that stupid thing off. Still a great find though, for me anyway.

Clariel - Book for of the Old Kingdom by Garth Nix - really liked this first two books in the series, though Abhorsan felt like a rush to the finish. Looking forward to seeing how this one turns out

Golden Age and other stories by Naomi Novik - seems to currently hold a USA only release on this curious collection of short stories. So a bit of a wait on this one appearing.

Are you a longtime Hammett fan like me? This is a very strong collection which i have in a Vintage/Black Lizard paperback. A lot of strong, fun, fascinating The Op short stories. I hope you enjoy it.

As avid fan of Hammett who near worship his writing, i envy you so much finding such a great find!

Read this last summer, enjoyed it immensely though the short bio was sad. Is that Black Lizard book you have the Big Book Of OP stories edited by Penzler (I think)? Will get that sooner or later.

The Big Book of Continental Op Stories is edited by Richard Laymon (not the [late] horror writer) and Julie Rivett (Hammett's granddaughter).

I think The Continental Op is one of the finest creations in literature of the last century, vastly more interesting than Sam Spade, Philip Marlowe both as Hammett creation, as legendary PI characters.

I have several The OP collections, the two novels but i have been waiting years for a complete big book collection to read all his 20+ stories. So this Big Book by Layman, Julie Rivett is a dream come true as a fan, as a collector who wants everything with Hammett name i can find.

Thanks dask for reminding me of this new book!

This usually cost $7.98 at Barnes and Noble but today it and others in this series of anthologies zeroing in on late 19th and early 20th century horror, supernatural, ghost, mystery and thriller stories cost only $1.99 plus tax.

So I got it.

I just received Doctor Who and the Krikkit Men by James Goss.

I'm a sucker for Douglas Adams and I thought this would tie in THHGTTG and Dr. Who. Interesting to see where it goes.

Dan Abnett was one of my favorite comic writers when I was actively collecting (now I'm just resting on my laurels). Never read any of his book fiction, though. Probably pretty good I'd imagine.

Very good.

I really enjoy his Warhammer 40K stuff, especially the Gaunt's Ghosts series.

Okay, will keep an eye open when book-bummin' around. Library book sale this weekend too. (Glad I worked some overtime today!)

I blew all the gift cards and petty cash I got for the holidays over the last 2 weeks and wound up with this.

I have read the Greene, Bradbury, Eco, Hobbit, St Exupery. Never finished The Gods Themselves or the Silmarillion. Good selection.
