This is me. In the 75 word challenges, when the genre is SF or Fantasy I really struggle. @HareBrain 's Tudorpunk or @Teresa Edgerton 's Weird Western is far easier somehow. (Although I've yet to come up with something this month.)

That is funny, because I am the exact opposite. I had never heard of "Weird Western" prior to this month, and I beat my head against the wall until I came up with something in the ballpark, but I typically have immediate ideas with Sci Fi and, to a lesser extent, Fantasy. Now, my ability to execute those ideas it a wholely different story...

I used to read them when I was a kid.

You know, the 'decide to join in' period and the 'select a subject desired' period could be seriously shortened in this exercise, and the 'pull the assignments out of a hat and distribute them' phase advanced. The last suggestion for a subject/genre (or, in the Mouses case, a 'subject/gender') was on the fifteenth of November, and that was a simplification of an earlier request - those of us who're going to find the time know well ahead, and those who procrastinate as close to the deadline as possible will just advance their procrastination to the new rhythm.

This would give more time after the choice to work on the particular theme allotted, and less excuse to those who have never finished their pieces on the declared day - and, should the delivery deadline be moved up to allow for the latecomers, this gives more time for the ringmaster to prepare the cut for the excerpt.

Just a thought.

What do you think, fam? Shall I go ahead and start allocating stories? Chris is totally right; the numbers I was hoping for have not materialised so there's not really any need for me to hold off. And it would be easier for me as I leave for the States on 28th December, so I can do it before then.

You know, that would actually make sense -- if it was a hippie band instead. Arsenic on the toothbrush is what my friend's mom always used to insist was the weapon of choice when we played the game in question. :D

Why don't you make a list of the requests so that potentially interested stragglers can see what they might be letting themselves in for?

sinister42:- Wants a story involving an octopus, tennis, upside-down rain, and a meerkat named Steve. Genre: post-futurist steampunk noir.
sinister42:- alternate prompt Write me a sci-fi noir murder mystery.

Mouse:- would like a humorous story (i.e. one that makes me laugh, not one that's stupid) with an all-female main cast.

Victoria Silverwolf:- Would like a story that takes place at least partly underground.

Shyrka:- would like something that subverts a trope of some kind (your choice) in a fantasy-esque (steampunk, alt history, etc. would be also be fine) genre.

DragonAether:- I would love to see a story that involves a penguin soldier and romantic-drama or just drama. (Edited to add new request: "let's suppose that mankind started to colonize Mars in the year 2030 and now we are in 2090/2100, so with a fully developed and independent martian's country. Pretend to be a guy/girl that just landed on Mars to start a new life, describe what you think it would be like, your job, people, the city itself and so on.")

Dan Jones: would like a Groundhog Day style murder mystery, where the detective is forced to live the same day (and murder) over and over until s/he solves it and catches the killer.

Venusian Broon:- . MR James style, but involving a modern urban setting. The 'theme' I'd like is Trickster and I want a proper twist ending. NO NEGOTIATION OR SKIMPING ON THE LAST POINT

Kerrybuchanan:-
would like a story, set in the near-future, about an elderly and/or dying human who is being cared for by an AI/robot. Then the AI gets a little carried away....

Starbeast:- You're in a cabin, in a secluded wooded area (with or without friends). Intelligent, but demented squirrels want to infiltrate the cabin because you have a can of mixed nuts.

johnnyjet:- would like a story about identical twins who somehow end up very far apart in space and time.

Joshua Jones:- requests Space Pirates vs. War Kitties, Military SF, and it has to have a forbidden romance subplot somewhere in there, though this need not be a core part of the plot.

chrispenycate:- 'A Child's first Monster cookbook'

TheDustyZebra:-
would like a story about Professor Plum, in the Library, with Arsenic on the Toothbrush.

Does that seem about right? I might have preferences, but I'll do all of them. That is (he backs down a little) any of them. It's fun to write without (or practically without) word limits, to be as loquatious as comes naturally.

Chrispy, I edited that to add the second request that Dragon had sent, that I previously edited into his post, apparently after you had captured the first part, if that makes any sense. And even if it doesn't. :D

So I can delete the preparations I'd done for the militant penguin? That's all right, didn't like 'em much, anyway. Chocolate bars attacking SEALS – it's silly. How could anyone become romantically attached to chocolate?Yes, I hadn't even noticed that change, thank you.

And Jo - probably better to write what you're given than prepare them all, like me. Which would involve you deciding on a theme, then waiting :D while I get on preparing yet another ;)

Could I please have a Renaissance Fantasy Horor. With or without Zombies or the undead at the authors discretion.

Thank you.
