My Story: When I looked into those dark woods, "Noir Detective Mystery" came to mind. And then it kind of, mutated from there.

Congratulations Robert on the deserved win. It was a story that really blossomed for me after reading, rather than during, with its ingenious concept. I didn't get to re-read it fully until after the vote but it had left a sufficiently great impression that I couldn't help but vote for it. After, when I did re-read it fully, I had time to appreciate the detail of the execution - very nicely done. Well played.

If anyone was wondering about the snide remark by Gingko in my entry, it is actually true that strictly botanically/arboreally speaking banana trees are not in fact trees, but are giant herbs with thick stems. It's also true that Gingko is the most ancient of living tree species, and its ancestors were around long before mammals. Not everyone else's boasting is necessarily accurate, though!
