The latest 300-worder is up.

As always with the longer form, entries can be posted from the 10th of the month (in this case October), but that doesn't mean no-one can talk about the challenge until then.

And as ever, the image is only there to provide inspiration; your story does not have to reference it, even indirectly.

Well! I'm inspired...
I was about to make some kind of commitment dithering about what time I would have available to work with said inspiration, but then another inner voice piped up with a quote about how time isn't something that hands itself to you when you need it. Time is a whily beast that must be grappled into submission. Time is found. Time is made. It's not a matter of having it or not having it, it's a matter of taking time by the throat and bending it to your will.

Maybe it's the guy in the window screaming at me for tamely waiting for time to play nice.

Maybe it's that my life is on a precipice of change.

But I think I'm going to grapple me some writing time between now and the deadline for this one.

Your quote made me think of another quote!

"I love deadlines. I like the whooshing sound they make as they fly by." - Douglas Adams

He was indeed... I love his sense of the humour.

I was lucky enough to attend an authors table which he, Piers Anthony, and a few others attended. He was the most outgoing of the bunch! A very likeable fellow, who answered all questions asked! (Piers, an introvert, didn't seem to enjoy being in front of the crowd.)

I can get how Piers felt! lol Being a little bit of an introvert myself! I can tell from his writing that Adams was a greatly outgoing, look on the bright side of life, fun guy. He in all of his books there is a sort of take life and your own oddness and own the day! Feel to them which I love. His books make the day brighter for having read them.

Great photo. Really nice change to have a detailed character shot.

Hmm.... Mr O thinks his long haul flight tomorrow might be good chance to grapple him some time...

I think I'm going to enter this one. It got my rusty wheels going so I'm going to give it a try. Good luck everyone. ;)

I gots me a clever finishing twist. Hope I post quickly before someone else gets the same idea!

Never fear -- every time I think I've seen something blindingly obvious that everyone will be writing, it turns out nobody else did. Or, on the rare occasion when someone else thinks of something similar, their take is so totally different that it doesn't matter.

Thank you Colette Halstead for the photo for this month's challenge. I stared at it for a few days, then put on my gas-powered thinking helmet and switched on the nitrous. After the explosion, an idea rose from the ashes. Miniscule, but an idea. But that's how it always starts with me, very small.......until I stuff it like a turkey, and burn it with a flame-thrower, and nail it to the hood of my car and drive it around for all to see...........or maybe I'll just type it out on the PC and see what happens.

Well, it's very nearly the 10th here, so I know it's the 10th there. The story thread is now open. Count carefully, folks! :D

Six stories so far! Quite a nice, varied lot, too. Hard to imagine, but by the time the voting has ended for the challenge, there will be a newly-elected president in the US...hopefully things will go well there (an oblique reference to...well, something. :)). Best of luck writing, all! CC
