What Anime and Animation are you currently watching?

Currently watching, ordered by enjoyment level:

1. Plastic Memories -- About cyborgs purchased as companions for humans. The cyborgs only have a short lifetime, but when that time is up, they start to have issues operating and eventually malfunction, resulting in some dangerous situations. It is the main characters job to recover the aging cyborgs before they go haywire and cause harm, but not every owner is ready to give up their life companions so easy, especially when the process of collection causes the cyborgs to be reset to factory defaults, wiping their memory and practically turning them into a whole new person. It's both a funny yet tragic character driven story that I found hits me in the feels every single episode. The characters are very lovable and it's easy to become emotionally invested. Be warned: this show will most likely make you cry big manly tears.

2. Seraph of the End: Vampire Reign -- Story about a post apocalyptic world where vampires released a virus into the atmosphere that wiped out all adults, leaving only children (their favorite food source) to fight back against their armies. The main character breaks free of an enslavement camp and joins an elite group of soldiers with the purpose of seeking revenge for the murder of his family, only to find himself facing off against his foster brother who has been turned into a vampire.

3. Fate/Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works -- the remake of Fate/Stay has been very good, demonstrating pretty decent loyalty to the source material and certainly a huge improvement over the original version. The prequel 00 episode was a bit slow and poorly animated, but from episode 1 onwards it only got better. It turns into a pretty epic show with fantastic battle scenes. The story is set in a modern world where mages summon avatars to fight for them in a battle to seize control of "The Holy Grail," a relic that can grant any wish they desire. Only by defeating all the other avatars can the Holy Grail reveal itself.

4. World Trigger -- Quite slow, but very interesting new entry into long-running mainstream anime. The story is about a group of soldiers harnessing this power within them called "Trion" to defend their home against hostile "Neighbors" from another world. The battles are quite entertaining, with every character having their own strengths and weaknesses. Very similar to other mainstream anime like Naruto and Fairy Tail. The story is set for an initial run of 50 episodes, but considering how far through the story they are, I expect it will get another 50 after that and keep going into the hundreds, like other mainstream anime have.

5. Arslan Senki -- The epic fantasy story of the season. About a young prince forced to grow up fast when his father is defeated in battle and his kingdom lost. Arslan must grow stronger as he bands together those still loyal to him and fights to retake his land while correcting the mistakes his father made that led to his inevitable downfall.

6. Re-Kan -- Comedy about a girl who can see ghosts and the antics she and her close group of friends get up to while they try to help the ghosts. This show is HILARIOUS. The characters are fantastic. It's the perfect feel-good anime. And I love the intro.

7. Punch Line -- Story about a guy whose spirit becomes separated from his body. Like a fly on a wall, he gets the chance to see events going on in his apartment complex without anybody knowing. At first this show seems like purely an excuse to show off shameless amounts of fanservice, but when you give it a chance, you'll see the echi moments are woven so well into the story that they make for some hilarious antics, and the superhero concept of the character, "Strange Juice", is fantastic.

Mappa have taken a page out of Shaft's book here and done a great job with this show, putting a lot of attention into detail. The story evolves into him having to use spirit powers to time travel and save his friends, while trying to put a stop to an apocalyptic event that will destroy the world.

8. Ore Monogatari -- A romance comedy with a twist: the male character is a huge ogre of a man who could never get a girlfriend because of how he looks... until he rescues the girl from a molester on the train ride to school. She becomes enamored by him and they grow to have a loving relationship with many quirky, adorable moments. It's a cute, feel happy show that does its job very well. Great music.

9. My Teenage Romance Comedy: Season 2 -- Story about an anti-hero guy who has no interest in forming social relationships and is extremely jaded by romance, yet forced to join a club who's sole purpose is to help other students solve any problems they might encounter during their studies. While the first season was a bit episodic and never really dealt with the main issue -- although it had plenty of moments that made me laugh -- the second season character depth has grown immensely. It has come into its stride, now revolving around him opening up to the world and coming to desire those friendships he previously spurned.

10. Kiniro Mosaic: Hello! -- Second season of a story revolving around an exchange student who comes to live with friends in Japan. If you can look past the terrible Engrish, you'll see a sweet, feel-good anime with some very hilarious moments. The characters are adorable and the music is very good.

Plastic Memories: You say 'cyborgs', but these are human-machine hybrids, & thus ought to have human rights. Did you mean 'robots'?

I was using the word cyborg to imply that they have human physiology. Which is what a cyborg is, something that has both organic and mechanical parts. I believe Arnold Schwarzenegger's character is referred to as a cyborg in the Terminator movies. To me a robot is something made out of completely metal with no skin grafting or any such technology that makes them look human.

When I think about it, the term I should have used was Android.

The new anime season has started, but so far it's kind of mediocre compared to the high quality shows of last season. Luckily there are still some good shows carrying over from the previous season (World Trigger, Shokugeki no Soma).

I've barely added any at all to my watch list this time around.

The first to secure a safe spot in my watch list is Akagami no Shirayuki-hime (Snow White with the Red Hair). Straight away I got a rich epic fantasy feel with a shoujo twist. About a medicinal woman who attracts the attention of a spoiled and rather malicious ruler. Instead of bending to his will, she gives up her life and runs away, ends up joining a trio of knights who decide to protect her. It reminded me of Akatsuki no Yona, which is a win in my book.

The second show I've added is Gangsta, It's a brutal look into the world of gang warfare. A much more mature anime than normal, including violence, sex and pretty heavy language. Definitely not for kids.

Third to join the list is GATE. A fantasy story about a gateway to another world that opens up in the middle of Tokyo and lets an army of mythical creatures invade. They are pushed back by the defense force who then traverses the gateway to take the battle back to their fantastical world. Epic fantasy with magic vs technology spin.

And lastly, the one that surprised me the most was Gakkau Gurashi (School-Live). I didn't read up anything on the show, just saw a first episode of a new show available to watch and started it. Before I'd even made it halfway through the episode I considered stopping it, all that was happening was a girl chasing her spoiled brat of a dog around the school. I persevered through the episode and got to the end. Let's just say I am glad I finished it... I did not see that ending coming. That's all I'm going to say.

So Gakkau Gurashi is safely secured on my watch list

There are still a few new shows I've yet to watch which look like potential, and there are some that have me on the fence (Chaos Dragon, Ranpo Kitan, Aoharu x Kikanjuu) and I'm waiting for the second episode before deciding. So my list may increase. I hope so, or it's going to be an uneventful season for me.

But I think at this point, Gakkau Gurashi and Akagami no Shirayuki-hime are going to be my favourites.

Seems like it's the season for epic fantasy.

Watched the first episode of The Braves of the Six Flowers (Rokka no Yuusha). Was pretty good. A story about six heroes chosen to protect the world from a demonic god that returns to the world every 300 years. So it joins my list of favourites for the season. Now just waiting for Fate Kaleid Liner PRISMA ILYA 2wei! to return so I can add it to my list.

Also watched the first episode of Shimoneta. While not even remotely close to being as good as Rokka no Yuusha or Akagami no Shirayuki-hime, it was still an interesting spin on the ecchi genre. In an attempt to control morality in the world, all use of sexual innuendo and pornography has been banned and a police force created to control it. The MC transfers to what is supposed to be an elite morals school so that he can be closer to the girl he likes, only to find himself caught up in the crazy antics of a "terrorist" trying to spread dirty jokes around the school. It's rather silly but surprisingly entertaining. How they bleep out the sexual words is hilarious.

Just finished watching kuroko no basuke, but trying to work through Naruto and the new Sailor Moon release, but its not going very well.

I think people got a little caught up with the nostalgia of Sailor Moon because of childhood memories, but even the remake is really dated style of animation and voice acting which doesn't do it any favors. If they had made it feel more modern it would probably be a lot better. The same can be said for the new Dragonball Super, especially those voice actors. I cringe every time Goku speaks -- It's not very often the English dubs are better than the Japanese, but for Dragonball I think I can definitely join the line of people demanding Super get an English dub.

Naruto just has too much filler, not enough story. Out of those mainstream anime types (the ones with hundreds of episodes), I preferred Fairy Tail -- at least the majority of its filler was of some value to the main story arc.

I am in the midst of FAIRY TAIL, quite enjoyable! Still watching NARUTO SHIPPUDEN, & just started KNIGHTS OF SIDONIA season 2.

Definitely the difficulty of Naruto is that as you just get into the plot and really what to know what going to happen, you get landed with a whole load of fillers that really doesn't have anything to do with the plot. Doesn't move the plot along and could have actually been used to do a side anime series to Naruto is the producers wanted to do the fillers to fill out the Naruto storyline.

I am a bit resistant to the new Sailor Moon because I fell in love with the original series, I use to get up a 7:30am to watch the series on Fox Kids that I kinda don't want the newer series to ruin that love for me.

My Summer season watchlist currently:

Fairy Tail (Tartaros Arc)- long running fantasy series

Food Wars (Shokugeki no Soma, 2nd cour)- shonen cooking series

Rokka Braves of the Six Flowers- fantasy/mystery series

Working!! (Wagnaria!!, 3rd season)- workplace comedy series

Rinne (2nd cour)- fantasy comedy series

Prison School- high school comedy series

GANGSTA.- mafia-esque action series

Castle Town Dandelion- family/high school/fantasy comedy series

Akagami no Shirayuki-hime (Snow White with the Red Hair)- shojo fantasy series

Watching all of these on either Crunchyroll or Funimation. It's been a very good season. I started out with 21 shows and even after dropping or putting shows on hold I have 15 I look forward to each week.

So now that all the shows for this season are well underway, I can say I've decided to keep watching:

New Shows:
Gate
Braves of the Six Flowers
School Live
Gangsta
Akagami no Shirayuki-hime
Charlotte
Aoharu x Kikanjuu
Chaos Dragon
Sore ga Seiyuu

Returning Shows I'm currently watching:
Durarara
Fairy Tail
Shokugeki no Soma
Rinne
Ore Monogatari
World Trigger
Fate Kaleid liner PRISMA ILLYA

Shows I'm still on the fence about:
God Eater -- I'd originally dropped it 5mins into the first episode, mainly because of the animation style and how disjointed the first episode seemed to be, but then happened to see the 3rd episode recently and it looked quite good, so giving it another chance.

Shimoneta -- Started off hilarious but has gone pretty sour with me now and I'll probably stop watching if it doesn't get back on track.

Shows I've watched at least the first episode of then dropped:
Ushio and Tora -- Not my kind of show, I want to take it seriously, but the show isn't even taking itself seriously. Old fashioned style anime.

Overlord -- Boring, very little progress made in the episodes I watched. The concept is good, although not even remotely original, but the characters are bad. I can't stand the show's pin-up girl (Albedo) and have lost interest in the MC. I wanted to see a show focused around the bad guys, which is what I thought I was getting at first, only to find they aren't actually the bad guys, they just look like them.

Prison School -- Very painful to watch and seems purely to exist for those who have an interest in BDSM. The art style is terrible at times, and saying most of the characters are drawn ridiculously unrealistic is an understatement.

Actually, I am -- Derivative, nothing unique or interesting about the show to keep my interest. Only watched the first episode but the characters didn't do it for me.

Castle Town Dandelion -- Cannot suspend my disbelief enough to accept the premise of this show. It's just too fake and forced.

Classroom Crisis -- I really wanted to like this show but its very bland. They wasted so much potential with it. Perhaps it will get better and I might reconsider it at a later date.

Monster Musume no Iru Nichijou -- What were they even thinking with this show. Like Prison School, it exists to satisfy a particular fetish with fan service.

I don't watch all those 4-8min shorts, my shows need to have more substance to them. Out of all the new shows this season, Gate has turned out to be the better of the group, imo, followed by School Live.

Although If I was to include the returning shows, Shokogeki no Soma is still wins out. But I'm a chef by trade, so I'm biased.

Just watched episode 6 of Charlotte...

....

....

Where's the off ramp to this Jun Maeda highway...? I wasn't prepared for what happened this episode... Key strikes again. Things just got real.

Seriously though, I'm glad I started watching this show.

My husband loves to cook and after we watched the most recent episodes of Shokugeki no Soma he decided to make Karaage for the first time yesterday. It was really good! :)

Definitely tempted to do the same, it looked so delicious!

That's one of the great things about the show is how the food they are making is real food that you can reproduce. Yuki Morisaki is a Japanese chef who is collaborating with the author to create the manga -- she even published a recipe book based on the manga.

Bleach is good. I can honestly say that I have never heard of any of the others. Hetalia is a good anime to watch.... Stupid but good

I just started watching ONE PIECE; FAIRY TAIL at around ep 100; SCHOOL-LIVE! is about a couple of HS girls stranded at school during a zombie outbreak. Re-Kan! is about earthbound ghosts; Bladedance of Elementalers, I have only a vague memory of this one, but is is good. Just finished MY LITTLE MONSTER, quite good; ADULT SWIM has a few that I watch, though I found AKAME GA KILL on CRUNCHYROLL, & quickly finished it; while the other one (PARASYTE) just started last week, it is creepy & funny.
