I'm a known supporter of the fluff, so it didn't bother me.

Huh. I didn't think of The Unpleasant Profession of Jonathan Hoeg when I made my list. I don't really think of it as s.f., but anyone who likes Heinlein's s.f. would certainly find it of interest. (Also, it pings interestingly off G. K. Chesterton's The Man Who Was Thursday.)

I've mentioned these 2 books and author before. The Troop and The Deep by Nick Cutter are very scary, IMO.

Love that Chesterton book, one of a handful of imperishable personal classics for me. See if you can watch Godfrey Reggio's short film Anima Mundi the next time you read the zoo sequence.

The Border by Robert McCammon - this definitely comes under the description of sci-fi horror!!!

It's brilliant, I'm really enjoying it and definitely recommend it to anyone who enjoys sci-fi/horror.

The Passage by Justin Cronin has been my favourite sci-fi/horror novel for years, and I think The Border is right up there with it (unless things go drastically wrong in the last 3rd which I'm yet to read!)

If anyone is still interested, the best sci fi horror that I have recently read is the Infected series by Scott Sigler.
I am on a copy/paste deficient device, so here's the summary of book one (there are three and I highly recommend them all).
"The book follows several characters as they deal with an alien invasion on the microscopic level. The narration is primarily through the perspectives of Perry Dawsey, an ex-football player with an anger problem, and Margaret Montoya, an epidemiologist with the CDC who is investigating a strange disease that turns seemingly normal people into murderers."
It's very good, I'd love to know if anyone has read them.

I love scifi horror on film. But who are the John Carpenters, James Camerons and Ridley Scotts of the literary world? The only scifi horror story I ever read was Sandkings by George Martin. I'm looking for some amazing scifi horror books.

I just suggested a space/werewolf story called Frontier of the Dark by A. Bertram Chandler in another forum.

I tried writing sci-fi horror once. Probably didn't do a good job of it. It's a great mixed genre, though. Very complementary.
