A blue remembered earth

What did people think of A Blue Remembered Earth and the Poseidon's Wake series in general by Alastair Reynolds?

I am having trouble getting through the second half of the first book. The problem for me is the characters are very boring and unlikeable.

I've just finished reading the third instalment, and found the whole trilogy a bit of a struggle...I have a problem with reconciling the central ideas (without spoiling the books for anyone) of the sudden economic and social uplift of the central 'ethinicity', and the creatures which are also central to the story seem to be an odd choice.

Maybe I was spoiled by the complete excellence of the Revelation Space series...

I get mixed signals from these books and as much as i loved AR's Revelation Space series, i don't have much desire for the Posiedens Children and they are still on my to read list.

See thats the thing also for me, I'm also going through Revelation Space right now (just finishing book #1) and I don't like the characters in there.
