Fox executives Dana Walden and Gary Newman revealed during the TCA (Television Critics Association) press tour that they are in talks with "X-Files" creator Chris Carter about bringing back the show for a new generation of fans to debate and love.

No word yet on when since Anderson and Duchovny both are tied up with other projects right now. So I'm guessing sometime around 2018...

I forgot I read about this but I never came to discuss it here. Then again, 2018 is a long way off and it may be only 6 episodes. I cannot see it ever catching the same wave as it did in the early '90's.

I would be very curious to see this if it comes to fruition. I was a X files fan, but even now-a-days, I have a hard time wanting to watch re-runs on netflix, because of the many 'story arc' episodes that drag the pace down. I do love the Monster of the week episodes still.

I think the concept has aged badly. Even Fringe had trouble keeping to its original roots towards the end and it became a full blowout scifi show more akin to star trek than X-Files. I'd much rather see a TV show about the CDC. Just thinking about how much crazy stuff they have to deal with on a daily basis, should have enough material in there for a TV show.

Have you seen Helix on syfy channel? It involves the CDC, in a very science fictiony way.

Possibly a slightly more realistic depiction of the CDC than Walking Dead, but that's not saying much :D

Sounds like they are starting the filming this summer with David and Gillian for a planned 6 episode comeback

Any further news on this?

I think the best part is that Chris Carter is on board. Also original writers Glen Morgan and James Wong. Unfortunately, Breaking Bad and Just Call Saul creator Vince Gilligan, who wrote 30 episodes of the original series and acted as executive producer on 40 episodes, is not involved.

I have been keeping a close eye on this one @Dave as this is probably the show that I am anticipating the most.

There have been a few recent developments.

Chris Carter has said that he is going to be revisiting the story's main mythology and other classic hit episodes. Now though, just rumors, there is an interesting suggestion floating around claiming that during one episode Mulder and Scully will revisit that creepy inbred family from Home. As the second episode in the new season is called Home Again. http://www.avclub.com/article/x-files-going-home-again-220450

Also Chris Carter has stated that he would like to see many fan favorite characters appear and confirmed that the Smoking Man, William B. Davis is coming back. Now that his Continuum run is ending. Seems perfect for him to get back to that role. Along with Skinner, Mitch Pileggi. He didn't confirm, but said there is a big chance that The Lone Gunmen could return! http://screencrush.com/x-files-revival-limited-series-lone-gunmen-chris-carter/

This just in. Joel McHale will play some type of Art Bell/ possibly Alex Jones type radio personality who becomes an unlikely ally of Mulder. That adds a whole new dimension to this. I can't see how they can finish in six episodes this needs a 13 episode order, and the fans will demand it. I hope Chris Carter is aware what he's getting himself into by stepping into it all again. The fanbase is going crazy.

I once read Duchovny say something in an interview about how good an actress Gillian was even though she had small breasts. However that would be just the kind of thing you'd say if you wanted to start feud rumors too. In any case actors and actresses that hate each other often make the best onscreen couples anyway.

Mulder and Scully once had to play a married couple undercover. Scully's pet name for Mulder was "poopyhead."

I'd really like to see how they revive the Lone Gunmen. I always thought their spinoff could have succeeded given a chance. The comedy aspects of conspiracy theories seem so obvious a device for stories that it should be a cliché, yet it's surprisingly little used to my knowledge, (but maybe that's just why it's not)

A pair of teasers for the 6-episode X-Files mini series were a bonus during the Minority Report episode aired Sept. 28 on Fox. The segments were very short, and I haven't found them online.

Fox has announced that the series will begin Sunday, Jan. 24, 2016 -- followed by five subsequent Monday night episodes from Jan. 25.

Cautious about this one, but by no means close-minded. Not too long ago, I got an offer I couldn't refuse -- the entire run of X-Files, including the two films, for just over $70 (new, no less!), and when I have the time, I've been watching them. I've not seen most of them since they were originally broadcast, so it's often almost new to me again. Some I don't feel stand up well, but a surprising number still have it, in my view, so perhaps they can indeed pull it off.

On the rumor about Duchovny and Anderson... yes, I've heard that he said he basically hated working with her, but by the time of the second film, he had begun to feel it was time to bury the hatchet, and the animosity apparently hasn't sprung up since. So who knows? As indicated above, such rumors are common....

They've just announced the entire original series in HD for blu ray.... Now I'd take seasons 1-6 but you'd have to pay me to watch the rest!
