Sony let Spiderman join Disney-Marvel

If I understand this correctly, Sony have announced that Disney-Marvel can have Spiderman for use in their film franchises, and he will appear in the next Captain America film, Civil War, though perhaps in a limited appearance. And Andy Garfield will not appear in the next standalone Spiderman film, to be released in 2017:

I think it's great news. Am looking forward to seeing Spider-Man interact with other Marvel characters like Cap.

I hope they get the tone closer to DisneyXD's Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon; I love his character in that!

I stumbled upon an article about this. From what I understand, it is essentially renting the character out. Sony can change their minds whenever they wish - they did it purely because their rights to the character will lapse if they don't keep using him. It's also why it keeps getting rebooted over and over. Same with the Fantastic Four.
