The Walking Dead - Season 5 and onwards

Chad Coleman talked a bit about Tyreese dealing with the violence, particularly on the part of Carol:
Well, you know, we pick up right where we left off, so there's no jump in time. You catch him right in the middle of it, in the tug-of-war of emotions, just wrestling with it, the push and pull. On one level feeling a connection with Carol for sure with all that we witnessed together, and just the pull of the pain of losing someone who meant so much to me. So he's still struggling. He's still wrestling. And then, on top of that, they're trying to make their way to Terminus, so it's just a push-and-pull and still trying to hold that weird little community, trying to hold it together to get to a larger safer place. And hopefully reconnect with the rest of the group.

He also explained how Tyreese will react to the new characters like Abraham, Eugene, Rosita, Tara:

He tends to take his cue from Rick and Michonne and Glenn and Maggie. If they're going for it, then he's kind of going there with the crew but keeping a real serious eye out for how this person is trying to operate, you know? So I think he would proceed with caution with the hope that it's going to be good, and to trust that they have read this person the right way, but at the same time, staying really cautious and aware.

According to Lauren Cohan, part of this season's theme is seeing Maggie's life parallel her father's:

The thing I've enjoyed about this year is seeing Maggie deal with situations sort of in the footsteps of her father, and I think that's how we've carried on, and that's sort of how we speak on the loss of Hershel is seeing his character through his daughters. So we'll see Maggie come face to face with some things, and it's interesting to see the kind of woman she's becoming in the face of those conflicts. That's all I can say about that.

We're also going to see Maggie's hope for her sister and the cure in D.C.:

It's multifaceted, her feelings about this. Because one part of Maggie's problem is that she still hasn't found Beth. And the scraps of information she has don't't really give her anywhere to begin looking for her. But it gives Maggie hope, even though she doesn't know still what direction to go in. And so Maggie has this sort of calm resolve about her, having overcome the mission of finding Glenn, and overcoming the impossible by finding him and the rest of the group.
The next challenge does feel achievable, so that's one thing of them being back together, and then this idea that maybe there's a cure, something that's actually worth fighting for, is extremely exciting for her. And they obviously have reservations because Eugene is a really odd character and it's hard for the group to get a read on him, but as time progresses, it's one of the only tangible things they have to fight for. And Maggie's been one for sort of keeping on the mission. And Maggie's found this sort of pragmatic side that I think Hershel left with both of the Greene sisters — this idea that everybody has a job to do. And when you're in this sort of directionless world, what's my job going to be? You just grab it and hold on tight. And I think that's what we really saw come out for her last season, was really Maggie on her own, and how did she focus her energy? And Washington definitely offers up another opportunity for that.

Robert Kirkman said that season five is going to move fast, so don't think that Gareth is the main threat they're dealing with:
The only hint that I'll really give you is that there's a lot of ground covered in our first 8 episodes, so I would say without a doubt that Gareth is far from the only threat, quite possibly far from the biggest threat, and there's quite a bit on the horizon. I would just say more than any other season, we hit the ground running, and there's quite a bit going on with all of these characters. I think people are going to be pretty happy to be along for the ride.

He also addressed the couples of this season and alludes to the rumors about Daryl's sexuality:
There's certainly more couples. I wouldn't say that the entire group is starting to pair off, but there's been some hints. I think if you go back and watch season 4, you'll see some indication as to relationships that are forming here and there. Sadly, I would say that Daryl's situation remains somewhat ambiguous, or should I not say that?
You're just crushing the dreams of a lot of people.
That's a powder keg for my Twitter feed, I tell you. But yeah, a lot of romance this season. I'm going to regret answering that question.

Well Maggie and Glenn are well established, but the person Rick couples up with is already gone from the show...

The hype is around Darryl and Carol, but I wonder if Carol and Tyreese might get close now that it's just them and the baby?

Don't think its a spoiler to say that the previews imply that those 2 are reunited with the group pretty quickly.

I don't think Tyreese is looking forward to play hide the sausage with Carol. He's not that kind of man and Carol isn't that sort of woman. But it's almost safe bet to say that Rick is going to unite with Michonne.

Don't think its a spoiler to say that the previews imply that those 2 are reunited with the group pretty quickly.

Maybe to you but you saw what happened to me. I got a second or should I count it as third warning. So I don't look forward to commenting on this season as they're looking for any excuse to ban me permanently from this forum. I might do this first episode and then step away and leave this place completely.

I don't know the full history of your experiences... But I find this place pretty friendly in general. As long as we have threads per episodes then we can discuss freely each week, using spoiler tags for comic references..

You're probably right about Tyresse / Carol, but this is a show where the unexpected is to be expected (copyright 2014 markpud cliché generator). I like a show where nobody's safe, and I reckon that aside from Rick/Carl anyone could die this season. Although there will be riots if Darryl is killed off :)

Nobody wants to ban you, ctg.

There is nothing wrong with saying something like, 'Oh, that next preview makes it look like John Doe is going to die in the next episode - I hope he doesn't, he's my favourite character.'

A spoiler is saying something like, 'Oh, that next preview makes it look like John Doe is going to die in the next episode - I was wondering when that would happen, it happened ages ago in the comics, oh and also Jane Doe, Sarah Doe, Megan Doe and little baby Harold Doe also died, so they should be copping it in the show soon as well...'

If in doubt, put spoiler tags around it. And please refrain from snarky comments afterwards.

Andrew Lincoln said that Rick's treatment of Gareth is an important plot point to keep track of:

It is dealt with... and it's a very interesting area. Bear in mind, not everybody witnessed it. That's an important story point. Those that did, some of them came with Rick. Rick is one of these people that we've seen throughout the years who's willing to step into the abyss. I think perhaps a lot of the story arcs this season for the rest of the characters are whether or not they're willing to go with him. That may cause conflict and opposition and stresses and strain and fear within the group.

Like a particularly stubborn zombie, there’s a Walking Dead fan theory that simply refuses to die: The events of the bestselling comic and hit television series all take place in the mind of Rick Grimes, who never awoke from his coma.

It staggers to life every so often on a message board, or in a YouTube video, before disappearing, Sophia-like, into the wilderness of the Internet. However, when the theory reemerged last week, with the help of Uproxx, Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman was on hand to strike a killing blow to the head.

“Going on record to answer this,” Kirkman tweeted on Friday, indicating the Uproxx piece. “Rick is NOT still in a coma. The events of TWD are definitely happening.”

Of course, Kirkman being Kirkman, he couldn’t resist adding a joke that will undoubtedly fuel another fan theory: “But Carl and everyone else are all imagined. He actually NEVER found his family. He’s been crazy since he killed his first zombie. #joking?”

Although his assurance will likely come as a relief to fans who have invested time and money into the comic series and its adaptation, there’s a little part of me that would love to see a final-scene tribute to St. Elsewhere or Newhart. OK, maybe not.

Seeing as The Walking Dead is one of — if not the — most popular TV shows currently airing, you wouldn't think TWD creator Robert Kirkman would have any regrets about the hit series. Turns out he has a big one.

If I had to do it again, I wouldn't have done the CDC episode [at the end of season one]," Kirkman told THR of the episode in which CDC doc Edwin Jenner (Noah Emmerich) reveals to Rick (Andrew Lincoln) that everyone is already infected.

The reveal came at an early stage for the zombie drama — which had yet to break out to become the ratings juggernaut it has become in season five, where it continues to rank as TV's No. 1 show among the all-important adults 18-49 demographic.

"It possibly gave away too much information and was such a big change very early on in the series," Kirkman said.

Andrew Lincoln echoed everyone else's statements that the second half of season five is going to be very different from the first half, while adding that the writers have done a great job of balancing a new set of characters with the old ones:

And certainly it's worth saying that episode 9 is one of the great episodes we've ever done. And 10 is the episode I always wanted to make. And then we do something very, very different in the back half, but believe me when I say it comes full circle and I think the back eight is some of the most interesting storytelling we've ever done on this show. It's so exciting to do. It's been scary, but also it's been thrilling because it's so different.

... We also introduce a lot of new characters in this back eight, and Scott and the writers have done a tremendous job of servicing maybe 24 principal characters. It's been an astonishing feat from their end as well. But I do have to say that losing Emily — it was so painful on so many levels. I adore the girl. I think she's amazing. We lost the voice, her song. And after her having such a tremendous episode that she led in in episode 4 to not even get the chance… I mean, I had three or four seconds to act with her and then she was taken away. It's just cruel, this job, man. It's just cruel.

Ross Marquand is the latest to join The Walking Dead, but who is he playing?
On this site, we normally like to explain where you might have seen an actor before when we deliver casting news.

However, we’d be surprised if you recognised Ross Marquand – he has appeared as Paul Newman in one episode of Mad Men, and voiced Han Solo in an episode of Phineas and Ferb, and we don’t have much more to go on.

We will be getting to know him soon, though, as he has signed-up as a series regular on AMC’s The Walking Dead for, at the very least, the second half of season five. Season six seems likely, too.

Although his role is being kept under wraps, Robert Kirkman has said publically before that a ‘prominent gay character’ from the comics would be appearing on our TV sets soon.

This has lead to speculation that Mr Marquand will be playing Aaron, a man with a mysterious past who becomes a key member of the team.

That’s just rumour at this stage, but we’ll be sure to pass on any more news
