Guardians of the Galaxy (2014)

Watched it last night with husband and kids, big success all round. We all loved it. And... I want a Groot! If I'm very, very good, think Santa will bring me one for Christmas? :D

YAY! I've just watched it today too. Wonderful soundtrack and the end bit with Groot was just so cute!

Lots of kids and it was so much fun that the kids applauded the screen at the end!

You could tell there were lots of grown-ups at our cinema because of the laughs at the Kevin Bacon references! :D

Also, Stan Lee's obligatory cameo met a round of applause. Very cute.

Yeah - the Kevin Bacon references were priceless haha!

Did you stay to watch the little bonus clip after the credits? That was priceless too!

We always stay on. Difficult thing is convincing the kids to leave after we see non-Marvel movies; they've been conditioned to wait for post-credits bonus clips. :D

That is indeed a sign of Marvel's effectiveness in conditioning people for pop culture intake haha! :p

I think this is rated 12A around these parts. Would it be suitable for younger children?

Alc, I took my just-turned-10 and 11 yo kids to it. It was fine for them. Does have a mild amount of swearing, and Peter Quill mentions some of the girls he's been with but not in too graphic language (would probably go right over younger kids' heads). :)

Took my 7-year-old to it. She got a little scared in some of the "grosser" parts and the beginning kind of bummed her out, but that changed quickly.

Thanks both. I think my five-year-old will have to sit it out.

Yeah, I wouldn't have taken her at 5. The opening scene is a death-bed scene and my daughter cried.

Other "Gross out" or "yucky" scenes are when a bad guy's body gets mangled and he snaps his bones back into place. (Sometimes, I think the noises are the worst part.) Or, a character getting her face "flaked" off. But, my daughter covered her eyes during those parts.

As long as there are clear distinctions between Good and Evil in movies, we'll take her to a PG or PG-13 film. She's seen all of the Lord of the Rings, for example. Clear lines of good VS evil.

And we've talked about special effects. She watches FACE-OFF with us on SyFy, for example. But, kids are kids in the end.

Watched this last night. It was really good fun. Some bits were a bit cheesy, but overall some very funny parts, the battle scenes were excellent and it looked beautiful. It was kind of like the younger, dumber brother of the Avengers and Thor films.

There were lots of 'that reminds me of Star Trek/Star Wars/Serenity/Raiders of the Lost Arc/etc moments. I'm not sure if that makes it derivative or a loving tribute.

Minor spoilers ensue.

Loved every minute of it, although the Ronin the Accuser that I remember from the comic books would probably have acted differently in one or two places. Probably shouldn't say more on that as it would spoil more than a few things.

I watched it in 3D, which was a theater first for me (actually, I vaguely recall watching something else in 3D, but the effects were so bad as to render the experience forgettable, evidently!). Zoe Saldana rocks as Gamora. Chris Pratt turned in a good performance, too. Saw the movie with my brother-in-law, who actually worked out in the same gym as Dave Bautista (Drax the Destroyer, who was not so muscle-bound in his original comic book version) and knew him before he became a pro wrestler, then actor. Didn't get the Adam Warlock or Captain Marvel epilogue that I was hoping for (and the one I did get won't bring me any closer to the Walock/Infinity War stories, but I'm guessing Marvel ***cough DISNEY! cough*** knows best).

Wanting more, but am gonna' have to be patient.

@ZombieWife, I think you mean bad lady, and she seemed to be 90% mechanical so it was more snapping metal bits into place! But yeah, still probably gruesome for kids. Also a couple of surprising swearing bits; or perhaps I'm still naive about that ;)

Saw this earlier and loved this ragtag bunch. I love that Marvel have FUN with their characters. In terms of comics I'm very DC, but I'm just not a fan of their desire for everything dark and gritty. Marvel know that you can have drama and tragedy and whatnot but it doesn't have to suck everything dry because of it.

And how can anyone not love Groot :D

I will say this was just a fun movie, as Marvel movies tend to be. I don't read comics, simply because I really have no desire to even had I the funds to get them, but Marvel's movies are simple entertainment, and sometimes even I need that.
