Actually, a mentions-to-votes chart would be interesting. I've found before now some months I have lots of mentions but barely a vote, as though the story is widely liked but not quite enough for anyone to place it first, whereas other times I've had some votes but hardly any other mentions, so the story really hits the spot with some people but most don't like it at all!

Yeah, that's what I'm wondering about, too. Looking at my personal records up to the end of last month (I'll happily donate them! I like to keep track of who gives me a mention, who gives me a vote, and any comments), I've got a grand total of thirteen votes to seventy-one mentions, with only a single member having voted for me twice since we started using the public polls (four of my thirteen votes, because of this, are anonymous), but a good handful of members who regularly give me a mention.
 
As requested by Mouse, here is a table for the 300 Word Challenges -- I've managed to get the 10 Challenges themselves on there, together with the total votes for each year** which I've set out on a coloured column in the hope that makes it easier to read. As before, let me know if you find any errors.

I gave a review of the figures as they were back in July before the start of the last Challenge, namely:
To date we've had some 379 entries by 132 members, with 1136 votes from 391 voters (hurrah -- more voters than participants!). Only 8 of us have taken part in all 9 Challenges, another 4 have only missed 1 Challenge, and 6 have missed 2. At the other end of the spectrum, a whopping 60 have only taken part in 1 Challenge, although 13 of that number entered for the first time this year, so we can hope they will return. (Well, we can hope the others return, too, but it's perhaps less likely.)

Hex was the overall winner of last year's Challenges, with 42 votes, with Teresa second on 27, then alchemist and Perpetual Man on 26 each, and reiver33 on 25. This year springs is in the lead on 20 votes, but there are 7 of us snapping at her heels with 10 or more votes apiece, so there's plenty to play for.

and then again in August at its end:
We had 7 new entrants this quarter -- Welcome Newbies! So that brings the total number of participants up to 139 members producing 416 stories garnering 1240 votes.

We still have 8 of us with 100% attendance records, but the number missing only one Challenge has dropped to 2, with another 6 of us having entered 8 times out of the 10.

After 3 Challenges completed, there's been a change around at the top of this year's leader board, but there are 6 of us with more than 15 votes, and another 6 with 10 or more, so there's still all to play for when we go into October's Challenge! Meanwhile, Mouse has the distinction of being the first to win the 300 Challenge Prize for the second time *sounds of cheering and applause* with a remarkable two wins in two entries this year (but take heart everyone -- she's plummeted down from 12 votes to 11 in the process... :p)

And in case Mouse was wondering where her two wins have left her in the leadership tables...

Mouse is second in this year's listing with her 23 votes, and in the three years to date she's joint sixth with Teresa on 49 votes, though she's got them in 6 entries as opposed to Teresa's 8. They are just above Boneman on 46 (in 9 entries), Culhwch and springs on 43 (7 and 8 entries respectively) and TDZ at eleventh on 42 (in 10), and just below mosaix who is fifth on 52 (10), Perp on 55 (10), alchemist on 56 (10), Hex on 60 (in only 8) and, um, me.


** for some reason I've split these into calendar years, not the 12 months of the 75 worders. I'm not sure which is preferable, so I might play around and produce a different version.

Thanks for doing this, and more importantly for me, summing up the data in the way you have; I have problems 'seeing' numbers (my job only requires me to cope with up to 8 :D) which is rather a pain in the er, neck, so your summaries are very helpful.

Darn, now this makes me wonder where I'd be score-wise if I'd actually kept up with the challenges. Although maybe that was just a fluky streak and it would have all gone downhill after that!
 
I think I should stick to the 300 worder... :rolleyes:

I do often struggle with the 75 worder in terms of telling a whole story. Plus I think I kick the genre a little too much sometimes and come up with something that leaves people stretching to find the link.

I'm sure springs was actually referring to the randy unicorn story which was, as I recall, TDZ's sin ;)

Grrr that I left my laptop (with the last 300 worder all written and ready to go) in our holiday cottage so didn't enter this month. Not that it would have helped me catch the unicorn, but it would have meant I only missed one 300er.
 
Guess the rest of us will have to chase her down, then. C'mere, you peskily talented rodent!
