Here is a clip from the (not so funny) 1992 U.S. version TV Pilot

(featuring actor Robert Llewellyn and music composed by Todd Rundgren)

I've got a horrible feeling that I'd seen that before and completely forgotten, with good reason it seems. It's more like trying to remember a dream.

My curiosity led me to see this mildly funny pilot. I'm too familiar with the orignial British versoin, the american actors don't seem to capture the characters well.

I would have loved to play the part of Lister or Kryten in the American version.

It seems to happen a lot with American remakes of shows, they either completly miss the mark or they try to copy verbatim. I'm just glad this didn't go ahead otherwise Terry Farrell, who played Cat in the second pilot, would have not taken on the role of Dax. It is peculiar the choice for Lister... I mean what exactly about him is Lister?

Thank god that didn't get the go ahead. The British version was simply funnier, and had a better chemistry between the characters .

QFT.

I saw a horrendous US pilot for a UK show and its killing me trying to remember what it was. I was offended beyond comprehension. haha

This...isnt that bad really. :)

'The Rear Guard,' failed abysmally in the US, but they never faced the threat of invasion, so a remake of the superb, 'Dad's Army,' wasn't really going to work.

Maybe if the US had actually gone into Space ...... oh dear !

Oh, that clip made me cringe... I am glad that it just remains as a pilot :)

Worth mentioning, on character chemistry, that Chris Barrie and Craig Charles really didn't like each other for the first season or two. As that coincided with their characters it didn't do them any harm, though.

That was 5 minutes & 38 seconds I will never get back!!!
No but really, I have seen this before and its just terrible. Its like the Americans tried to make it look like something from 1980.

The first Law of Robotics states "A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm".

So what was Kryten thinking when he agreed to do this?
