INITIATE'S TRIAL: Spoiler Topic (newbiew beware!)

No comments? How about one of Lysaer's little gems.

"This is a man whose kindness is drawn in sharp calculation, whose every word and act masks a hidden motive. Pity does not move him. His code is base deceit. The people he befriends are as game pieces, and if violent death suits the stripe of his design, not even babes are exempt."
No longer true all the time, but I doubt Lysaer can hold out against the curse. Janny deliberately did not show us the old Lysaer in Initiate's Trial. The cursed madman hell bent on Havish's and Arithon's destruction was kept out of our view, we only saw him from a distance. Janny it seems wants us to think of Lysaer in a more human sympathetic light, by showing us his struggles against the curse and his failure that caused harm to Daliana. Well we all know he is doomed to fail in his fight, so still the above insight is probably going to be true. Lysaer eventually realises who that really describes, he is going to have to deal with the self damning consequences.

Now you can disagree with me on that. ;)

I think Lysaer ALREADY realizes who that describes. He demonstrates in his exchanges with Dakar and Daliana that he knows he's a monster if the curse gets the upper hand. This was true in his exchanges with Sulfin Evend before, and continues with Daliana now:

I was never consulted. Did you or the Sorcerer pause to imagine? This matters! I might wring your neck in the throes of the curse. Why should I shoulder the chance of a murder that undermines all self-respect? What if I tell you that such a pitfall would hasten my certain destruction?

In the throes of the curse he might kill her, yet most of the atrocities Lysaer did, he was not under complete control of the curse. Lysear still seems to think his past actions were justified. He has only admitted creating that false religion was a mistake. He wants to fight the curse to prevent it gaining full control of him, it does not seem like he is coming to terms with how else it affects his decisions. It is the ravening madman hell bent on destruction Lysaer is trying to avoid becoming, not the cold, calculating manipulator, who is also not Lysaer's true self. Or at least I would hope it was not. Lysaer still thinks he is the knight in shining armour who's purpose is to save humanity. Instead he is going to be the opposite most likely.

And that observation of Lysaer's is probably going to be very accurate although it is not his destruction but his salvation that would be the aim of letting him get what he wants.
