It's (allegedly) going to be based around the Chris Claremont and Frank Miller limited series from back at the start of the 80's, which is probably one of the most defining stories in Wolverine's history. (And is superb)

Whether they manage to actually catch the flavour of that series is another matter entirely...

There's going to be a new Wolverine film? Gah! Why?! Where's my Gambit film, damnit!

But hasn't there been since the Origins film though, Perp? Don't get my hopes up!

If there is a Gambit one then I hope it's Taylor Foxy Kitsch playing him again. Though he'd better sort his accent out.

Well everything did go on the back burner thanks to the success of the other Marvel movies and the dip in the X-Franchise (X-3 and the first Wolverine movie), but the success of First Class has put the light back on the X-Men and a few of the possible solo movies.

I think the article I read generally inferred it all comes down to how well the next three X-Films do (Wolverine 2, First Class 2 and Deadpool)

As I typed that I'm suddenly not convinced that Gambit isn't meant to be in the Deadpool film....

Personally, I'd rather them remake the first X-Men film. Have Rogue the proper age. And include Gambit.

Seriously though, I don't quite understand doing 'Wolverine 2' or 'First Class 2'.

I certainly agree with you, much as I'd hate to disagree, I can't. Wolverine stank. Badly. But it made money so I guess they want to keep going, especially while they have a big name like Hugh Jackman attached.

X-Men did brilliant business so a sequel was almost inevitable.

Your suggestion of a reboot and start again... definitely.

I've never been so disappointed at a film in all my life as I was at the Wolverine film.

(Off topic again but, according to IMDB there is a film called Gambit in 2012, but it's got nothing to do with X-Men).

Well having just read the description of that movie, if it is Gambit, then they've seriously altered his origin ;)

I may be a geek, but I always like Cyclops. Really First Class, they put the youngest Summers as the first Summers in the X-Men.

um... Alex Summers is not the youngest Summers. Certainly he's supposed to be younger than Scott, but they have a third brother younger than both of them... Gabriel. Also known as Vulcan, who killed Banshee, then conquered the Shi'ar Imperium.

I don't look at First Class as having ANY storyline link to the comics. The power sets and most of the personalities are correct (excluding Shaw's powers), however its entirely apparent that absolutely ZERO attempt is being made to make a movie copy of the comic series (at least the one set in the 616 Marvel Universe). To which i must say THANK-YOU Matthew Vaughn and Brian Singer.

To others... Rogue seemed to be the correct age for her original appearance in the comics, she was much younger than the mainstream x-men... but intro'd as older than Kitty --- she SHOULD be Iceman's age at least roughly.

Cutting Wolverine out of all future X-Men films would be the best thing they could possibly do. Aside from the fact that he's absolutely the MOST boring character in the x-verse, He's also mischaracterised - BADLY - as a leader and heart-of-the-team character. Hugh Jackman is perhaps the WORST person imaginable to portray him - he has NONE of the berserker fury that Logan manages to keep so barely under control. . He's soft, and never for one moment can i forget that he's the same man who played Peter Allen on broadway...and did it so well. Hugh now plays the exact same character in EVERY film he's in. there's no cinematic versatility, and his broadway characters are also all of a type.

As one of the Old Guard, I still haven't forgiven them for the way they treated Scott throughout the series. Killing him off was what I'd call a tad rude.

If Bryan Singer or Matthew Vaughan aren't involved, I probably won't bother with the new Wolverine film till it comes out on DVD, unless I need something to take my nephews to see if it's one of their birthdays. For reasons why, watch X3 and the first Wolverine film, and you won't need to ask.

As for everybody hating Rogue in the X-men films, I agree, but think on the possibilities, it could have been Jubilee in that prominent position instead (I think i even heard that's what the original plan was, and changed when they re-wrote what Magneto would do at the end), and how much more would that have sucked.

For her being more like the 'real' Rogue, there was no way they could've done that without Gambit being around, and they were probably afraid of him getting more attention than Wolverine. And now, unless they re-boot the whole franchise, you can never have her growing up with Mystique as her mother and stealing Miss Marvel's powers (she isn't part of the X-Men, and therefore not part of the licence Fox paid for so can't appear in the films anymore than Kingpin or Rhino out of Spiderman can), so you won't have her with the powers she has in the comic or the cool-ass cartoon from back in the day, which is kind of gutting to be honest.

I think fan disappointment at that is why they got rid of her powers, so they could just be rid of her when they were still planning to follow X3 with an X4 before no-talent Ratner killed off the series with the worst Juggernaut you could possibly imagine, who was actually a mutant, and a Puerto Rican Psyloche with totally different powers and no lines being a baddy and then dying.

First class was cool though.

it seemed to me that a lot of the changes made to traditional characters - Rogue and Juggernaut for instance, were based on their Ultimate X-Men versions.
Also, Pyslocke is TOTALLY asian in x3... she even has a purple streak in her hair. She doesn't use her traditional telepathic powers, but again your mistaken, as for a couple of years, Psylocke DID INDEED possess shadow teleportation powers, in the 616 Marvelverse. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1024868/
i think perhaps your mistaking Callisto for Psylocke, and yes, i'll agree Callisto was completely altered, although given her "powers" in 616 marvelverse, thank goodness they did. seemed they gave her some super speed and Caliban's powers.

Psylocke in the film didn't emerge from shadows, but out of walls as if she is part of the wall (watch it again, it's more like Shadowcat, only she's camouflaged as the wall as she emerges), if it had been shadows I'd have been fine with it, it was the fact it WASN'T shadows I was making.

Juggernaught has always gotten his powers from the Cytorrak crystal, not from being a mutant. There's also no-way neither he or the Prof would have not recognised each other either.

They are all little points though, nothing compared to the fact it was just a bad film by a terrible director, that would have been just as awful if it had been closer to the source material.

And none of the changes in X3 were as far wrong as having a Korean guy playing a character who was a German that was supposedly actively involved in the Nazi party (Agent zero), it's like Hitler being played by a black actor.

Michael Vaughan is doing a sequel to first class anyway, I think I'll probably wait for that unless the next Wolverine film looks A LOT better than experience suggests it will do.

having now rewatched that scene i actually don't see ANY problem with Psylocke at all. Considering such a "camouflage" would be incredibly easy for a telepath to pull off. Its something we see our much beloved telepaths doing frequently.
She also, does have a couple of lines... literally...

Last I had heard the director Darren Aronofsky dropped out because he'd be away from his family for a year while filming in Japan. I was looking forward to seeing this partially because of this director.

Here's some info I got from reelz that I think may be fairly new??

After losing Darren Aronofsky (Black Swan) as a director and suffering multiple delays, 20th Century Fox's stand-alone sequel to 2009's X-Men Origins: Wolverine, The Wolverine, has pretty much dropped off of the radar of everyone but the die-hard comic book movie fans. Thankfully, ScreenRant managed to snap a picture of a teaser poster for the movie — though it is apparently only "concept art" that "probably won't be used in marketing the film" — in new director James Mangold's (3:10 to Yuma) office and it reminded us that this X-Men spin-off movie has the best chance yet of capturing the true spirit of one of Marvel's most popular characters by sending Logan (Hugh Jackman) to Japan to fight ninjas and the Silver Samurai in a story based on one of the character's seminal comic book series.
