Favourite moment in an Eddings novel?

Yes, the scene where Zalasta stabbed Sephrenia was certainly a memorable one, although I preferred the scene in The Shining Ones when Zalasta's spell was undone in front of everyone, revealing his betrayal of Sephrenia. The scene where Kalten helps her to realise who her friends are (smothering her with sincerity) is also one of my favourite Tamuli moments.

aside from the much mentioned Kalten/Sephrenia scene (which i can proudly say i was first to specifically claim on this thread - you just said any Kalten scene Talyisa), i almost cheered when Kurik got killed. how i loathed that man.
Oh Annias (Eddings' single best villain bar-none) get wrung out - literally - by Azash, that was a memorable scene and a fitting end for him. I always rather hoped Arissa would survive for some reason. She was so coldly evil. i like that in a character.
Ooh, and when talen steals all the jewellery from Kring when they first meet, then hands it all back quite matter-of-factly stating that Kring might want to get a stone checked for quality, and that one of the rings was hard to get off. I like that bit loads. Kring roaring with laughter was a great response - especially with Sparhawk and Tynian being rather shocked by his response.

Ah, I'd forgotten about Arissa. Aside from Annias, I thought she was one of the most interesting Eddings villains. I remember laughing at the scene in the nunnery, where she's reading a book of lewd poems in the cover of a book of religious literature. I didn't like Lycheas, though some of his scenes were good (Ulath and Kalten finding ways to torment him on the journey to Chyrellos, for example). Annias' end was a good scene, too - up until then, I'd never read about anyone being wrung to death by a god in fantasy (although I read the Elenium when I was fairly young and hadn't read many other fantasy books at that point).

And on checking, you were indeed the first person to mention the Kalten comforting Sephrenia scene, devilsgrin. It's been a while since I posted regularly in the Eddings' forum.

I love when Belgarath first discovers the will and the word - that whole part of the book, where he finally realises who his "master" is is terrific
Beldin and Vella is beautiful.
I also enjoyed reading about Ce'Nedra building her army (OK, I must admit, as a fellow pint sized redhead I did have daydreams about it being me LOL). Durnik hammering on the demons was good, and who can forget Silk and Brill? "Does bouncing count?" hahaha!

Also, am I the only one who absolutely adores Bhlokw (spelling?) the Troll? He's great! My fave character in Ele/Tam is probably Talen... Kalten is good, but Talen's the bees knees for me.

Hey everyone.... Long time Eddings fan here (pre Dreamers! however!). I just found this forum and started reading a few posts. I have to say my favorite moment is definitely when Adara thinks she's dying and confesses her love for Hettar but is sooo embarassed when he tells her she's going to recover. Cute!... Probably because I always loved Hettar (almost as much as Silk).

So many to choose from, but I thoroughly enjoyed Garion setting things up so that Mandorallen can finally marry Nerina. The way he castigates Lelldorin and co is just priceless haha In that scene it is pretty clear that he is going to end up a cranky old coot of a sorceror. Another one that gets me is when Belgarath and co realise that Belsambar has killed himself. So incredibly sad :-(

I only read the first set once a zillion years ago at the insistence of a friend and I only remember one thing from them: the young wizard (I thought his name was Belgarion, but I see Belgaraths and Garions in this thread, so I don't know) had been creating various things with wizardry and it was going wrong. His wizard mentor told him to get busy doing something he didn't have much time for and he said something like, "Don't worry, I'll make time!" and the older wizard flipped out. "No! Don't you go messing with time, now!" or exclamations to that effect. So, yeah, the literalization of "making time" has always stuck with me. (If anyone has a copy or a better memory and can convey it more accurately than me, that'd be great.)

Hello everyone!! I'm rereading the Belgariad for maybe the fifth time now. I've been inlove with these characters since I was in middle school. One of my favorite moments has been when Garion was bathing in the stream and Ce'Nedra comes to have a bath as well. There are so many other moments that get me all emotional but I've always really enjoyed this one as well.

I think one of my favourite moments is in Pawn of Prophecy, where Garion and Polgara get into an argument about something. At the conclusion of which, after Polgara has naturally won, she concludes by saying "And Garion..." "What?!" "Don't even think about slamming that door."

You just know he does.
I've always envision that if that scene was played out of the screen. after the door slams. we would cut back to Pol who just has a wry grin on her face. Because she is seeing in Garion the kind of fire he will need to one day be king.

I think there is also a certain motherly love in the way that scene plays out. Garion in many ways is the child she could never have (though of course he is the latest in a long line) But since she at least suspects that he could be the one, she has a special attachment to him. She is always quietly prodding him in the direction he needs to go in order to be the man, father and king he will one day become.

But then the scene where she brings the ghosts of his parents back to see him always, and I mean always, makes me cry.

You're spot on about Polgara and Garion's relationship. It's one of my favourite Parent/Child dynamics in all of fiction. She really is goading him, and testing him all the time. Challenging his will. Training his thought processes. Polgara remains one of my all-time favourite characters in fiction (surpassed only by Storm of the X-Men for many similar reasons). She is the consummate parent. Indeed the ideal of the single parent.
It occurs to me that the moment in Sthiss Tor where She tells Garion exactly what she's sacrificed for him is the most powerful moment in not just Queen of Sorcery, but perhaps the entire series.
Eddings all-but deifies Polgara throughout the series. Belgarath mentions her being utterly flawless at virtually everything - if hot-tempered and almost as irritable as he himself. No character fails to note her spectacular beauty. Her eminence as the Queen of All Women is oft-repeated. I enjoy every instance where Polgara is lauded. For no character deserves it more than our Pol.

I think my favorite part was another Kalten moment, when Aphrael has to explain about Bhellion moving. I forget the exact wording, but it goes something like this...
Kalten: How do you know which way it's going?
Aphrael: Because it feels different when it's moving at a diagonal to when it's moving head-on.
Kalten: Oh, makes sense I suppose. One question. What's a diagonal?

The scene that always sticks in my mind is in Castle of Wizardry when Ce'Nedra meets up with her father and deliberately drives him into a fit so that she can take his soldiers. So she rides out in front of the army and starts talking while flicking gold coins onto the ground, until everyone goes crazy and joins her army.

Her manipulation of everyone in that scene is fantastic. I was 14 when I read Castle of Wizardry, and I may have had a terrible crush on Ce'Nedra, despite her being "difficult" to handle.

Martel's death. I kind of wanted him to survive the books tbh. Lot of sympathy for him.

Silk during his mother's death. Very human, very touching.

The phoney siege at the end of Domes of Fire. Every now and again, I love seeing the good guys just roflstomp the bad guys. No desperate stratagems, no chance in a million, no deus ex machina, just totally beat the tar out of straight up.

The Belgariad; Probably the bit where Garion is crowned. Just because it really made me buzz inside. I mean what 13 year old girl doesn't want to be a King QUEEN


I'm only on the second book in the Malloreon so.. hmm upto now probably the bit where.. Belgarion tells the nobles that the "air has gone a trifle rancid" .. :O Or was that in The Belgariad? :O!
