Noticed there was no discussion of this on the Matrix board, so thought I'd post something:

Keanu Reeves hints at new Matrix films

Keanu Reeves has suggested two new Matrix films could be coming to us some time in the future.
According to a Q&A session at the London International School of Performing Arts, Keanu Reeves answered questions on current and future projects, when he revealed background work already ongoing with the Matrix franchise.
Reportedly Keanu Reeves met with the Wachowski brothers, Andy and Larry – who famously wrote and produced the original Matrix trilogy – and that they had working scripts for Matrix 4 & 5.

I think you are mistaken. They aren't trying to make two more movies. They are trying to erase the last two and hope we will forget they ever existed. :p

I watched the first one a few nights ago. Most enjoyable.

I'm not really sure the latter two added much, let alone whether any more would be a good thing.

I'd imagine these may tell the origins of the Human/Machine war. It could be pretty interesting to be honest. I'm certainly up for giving the first one a go.

It's amazing to consider the first Matrix film is over 10 years old now - I'd certainly be interested to see how the entire concept could be developed further.

I have to admit I'm happy to watch Matrix Reloaded - the twin programs and the highway chase make for excellent cinema. Could never really get into Revolutions, though - too much focus on the machines.

The original Matrix remains a timeless classic, though. :)

Whilst I think that might be interesting Rodders, I'm not sure that's what they are talking about. It would rather preclude Keanu Reeves' participation unless he is just going to be a producer.

Actually, a prequel about the human/machine war would be pretty interesting :)

I assumed it'd be a sequel, in the Matrix itself (at least partly).

Might Reeves not be included as the original One?

LOL at Lemmy, and Menion's madness ;)

I think Keanu might be a bit old for it now, although The Matrix really suited his, er, acting style.
Despite some fantastic scenes, numbers 2 and 3 almost took the shine off the first film, which is still amazing. I would be wary of any further installments.

My first thought was "God, No!"

My second was that I also heard Keanu Reeves was making a third "Bill and Ted" film. (I heard this on Absolute Radio - though how he can still pretend to be a 1980's school kid is beyond me - that would take some real acting skill he hasn't yet shown us.)

So, I'm wondering if all of this is just wishful thinking from his agent?

A prequel might not suck as bad as it sounds, but I would have to see it to believe it. I don't think I would want to watch a Matrix-movie that takes place before the Matrix itself is up and running, but it could start with someone like Morpheus finding his way out of the Matrix and gathering his army, perhaps.

Not sure how Keanu Reeves could fit into all of this. Maybe "he" was one of the guys making the Matrix in the first place, but he felt guilty and programmed himself as The One. The machines noticed he was doing something bad and put him in the box or whatever it was humans are in, and he simply forgot all about it. We're talking movies where the entire world is fake and the real world is run by machines. Surely it wouldn't be a problem to wipe someone's memory?

A third Bill & Ted? Without Bill? Let's hope he refered to the tv-series. I don't think I want a third movie, and especially not with just Ted. We would need Alex Winter as well, but let's face it. They are getting a bit too old.

I tend to find the concept of prequels a bit limiting - surely it's better to keep moving into the future?

There's always the danger that "prequels" exceed the actuals, dangerously undermining them in a whole number of areas (cf Stark Trek technology changing in the recent film vs early 60's series it's based on).

Don't worry, there are good prequels too, no matter what Star Wars tried to teach us. :p

Hmm I'd always gone under the assumption that the Matrix itself was built to ensure that there always was a human vs machine war - which was why the first failed. In a machine world the matrix shouldn't fail - and even if it did humans shouldn't be released but simply broken down again.

The way I saw it when the humans blacked out the sky the machines shut down all their administration and focused fully on the war effort - putting a single general machine in control. However as the war went on it became (or began as) self aware and also realised - once the war was over it would be deleted for it would have no use.

Hence the need for the matrix - a way it can control people, but also break and create Neo in order to allow an artificial war to continue. Also explains why Neo was required (and didn't in the film) to select people to restart a new Eden city - a way to ensure that another group of humans start up again - start a war and thus ensure that the military machine remains needed and thus not deleted.

Saphi (the young girl machine/program) should have (in my view) had a much bigger roll/impact in the concept of machines without purpose save to exist.

I'm curious to see what the story's going to be as i thought that the trilogy pretty much closed off Neo's story and the war with the machines.

By the way, i-brian, it's good to see you back on the boards.
