Survivors 2.03

This was an episode where you really needed to have seen what happened last year, and I missed the one where he shot Gavin. I still understood.

Tom was very honest in saying why he had been in prison, but it seemed like he wasn't bothered whether he lived or died. He is a complex character, and I haven't worked him out. It was really, obvious what Samantha was going to do when she pretended to free him. Why did he need to go and fight Dexter? Why didn't he not just run?

I actually think Samantha is more dangerous than Dexter. Dexter was just a thug. Samantha is thoroughly evil. Tom played into Samantha's hands like a puppet on a string.

You are right, Samantha is so dangerous because she is more intelligent and beacuse she got trust (her work position before virus attack).
I can see similar fights every day, of course without dead but principles are same.
I must admit humans are pure beasts, not all, but many of us. And those who trust they acting this way for a higher good, they are the most dangerous because people following them easily.

I love this series because it showing who we really are.

The politician woman made one of her great decisions and decided that since Anya wasn't going to join them freely, she was going to force her to join. So she sent a team around and they successfully snatched in front of the eyes of others. Therefore Tom had no other choice but to go back and create an ambush on the crossroads. At the two of the kidnappers came out from the car, one wielding a baton, while another was brandishing a shotgun.

I think you see where this leads, but yeah, it was a great episode and it's such a shame you missed most of the series completely.

Because they have bad blood running throughout the whole history they've been together. Note that Dexter is also a criminal, and he was sitting in same high max prison from the Tom escaped.

Though he had a choice to just run away, I think he was tempted by the chance to get his own back. Therefore I don't think as a character he'd no other moral choice but to go through and do what she asked him to do. After all I don't think Tom was smart enough to understand that it was an obvious ambush and she would use it as leverage to gain power inside the survivors colony.

But in the other hand, she creating a great deal of bad karma around her, and I bet there's going to be a point when she end up in a corner without anyway she can battle her way out from there.

Thanks for those insights, and I understand all that, but Tom is still not so stupid to not see that Samantha might do that. He would have had to really hate Dexter, so that he didn't care. On the other hand, there was enough, even in this episode (with the water bottle), to make that so.

...she creating a great deal of bad karma around her, and I bet there's going to be a point when she end up in a corner without anyway she can battle her way out from there.
Samantha cannot last very long. There are already people who openly question her, and now she has lost Dexter the other thugs she has as policemen will fight among themselves.

It can be a very difficult to determine future success of dictator.

Hitler was a funny monkey on the beginning and nobody took him seriously. He caused the greatest war ever later.
Stalin was an unimportant Georgian thug and he had no support inside his own party. He was not even able to speak on public on the beginning. He killed 20+million of own people later and many of Russians still love him even after that.

Original Air Date—2 February 2010

Samantha says she will release him if he kills Dexter, who is becoming a liability to her. He does so but she reneges, sending both him and Greg to become slave labour in coal mines owned by Smithson, a friend of the duplicitous Billy.
