Star Wars: The Clone Wars

Hello,

Sorry about this, but the Clone Wars season 1 DVD Box set is due out soon. I haven't yet seen it, but i am quite looking forward to watching it back to back.

I just wondered if anyone had been following it and what did they think? I'm hoping that although it's aimed at children, there will be enough for us adults too.

I've been following it, and enjoying it greatly. Theres plenty in there for adults to enjoy, especially in the later episodes.

It is a very good series and it's not really aimed at children. The second season is now showing on Cartoon Network and it is even more intense than the first season.

I'll definately be getting the DVD box set soon. (I thought it was a massive con when they started releasing it one disc at a time.)

I remain underwhelmed by this to be honest, despite wanting to like it. Some of the elements are interesting - like trying to give a "Rogue Squadron" feel to the crack Clone Troopers team which follow Anakin around in this series - but for me it's weaknesses still stand out and some of the attempts to cover these make them more evident.

Anakin's still (though not as bad as the movies) comes across petulant rather than rebellious or headstrong. Obi-wan still gives the feeling that he's not really taking anything seriously, including actually training his protege, and the idea of trying to give clones individual personality is undermined by the fact that they all look the same! Giving them different haircuts or colour helmets fails to really address this.

I'd have much preferred a proper "Rogue Squadron" animated series, or anything post ROTJ rather than more Clone Wars battle against the evil tax dodgers or what have you.

Its back. And its good I love how they can cram so much action and story line into one short episode without it seeming rushed.

I enjoy it, as it's one of those shows my son and I enjoy watching together (although his comments about how he would handle each situation can be taxing at times (8 years olds!)).

It looks nice, but the droids and General Grievous are just too dumb. And it's disconcerting watching Storm Troopers fight for jedis.

Isn't Anakin a jedi Master already? He seems to have a padawan of his own in this series.

Agree about post ROTJ stories. Although there'll be less lightsaber action, I think they'll be more interesting than this. I thought I wanted a prequel, but I think it's overdone. If they want do something before A New Hope, maybe they should make something 100 years or more before Anakin. Focus on a younger Yoda or one of those older Sith Lords. Wasn't there a Sith-Jedi War or something?

Yeah, i'd agree with that last sentiment. Star Wars could go the way of Trek if theres too much in one era.

Actually if human clones were a reality they would have individual personalities. Although identical physically they would have different life experiences and different training which would lead to different personality's, much as identical twins usually have different personalities.

I honestly think the Clone Wars era is ripe with possibilities. The Original Trilogy era wasn't really much of a war. It was mostly full of episodes which featured the Empire searching out hidden rebel bases, and maybe small rebel strike groups performing hit and run attacks against the Empire. Any large scale battles took place on screen in the movies. There isn't much left to work with in that erah as far as depicting a full scale war goes. I wasn't too satisfied with most of the conflicts that the Extended Universe books were able to portray after ROTJ. I liked the Grand Admiral Thrawn Trilogy, and I liked the Rogue Squadron series. The Jedi Academy Trilogy was ok. I wasn't thrilled by the New Jedi Order or the Corelian Trilogy, or the Black Fleet Crisis.

I just think it is a very difficult thing to come up with interesting villains and conflicts that weren't first established by George Lucas. Not that I think he is perfect, but a lot of the post ROTJ stuff seems counterfiet, and reads like soap operas.

The Clone Wars are altogether different though. The prequels didn't focus much on actually showing what went on in the battle field. But they did show enough so that the audience knew it was a full scale war on multiple fronts, so there are endless full scale battle scenarios that our heroes can encounter in the show.

I think the show drops the ball in one critical regard. The heroes seem to turn up victorious at the end of almost every campaign. I think that is hurting the suspense factor a lot. General Grievous was supposed to be a military genuis, who almost never lost a battle, save for when the Sith Lords set him up to loose. This cartoon doesn't really depict him in that light.

Many of the comic books were far more dire than this cartoon. The Republic didn't always win, and they weren't always made out to look like the good guys. Sometimes they were forced to settle for complete failure as in the Star Wars Republic series titled the Battle of Jabiim

This does seem to be going from strength to strength. I haven't seen any of it yet. I'm waiting to get all the DVD's and watch them in one go.

Star Wars isn't really as vast as it sometimes pretends to be. I think George Lucas knows this. The big problem with the KOTOR games, the Tales of the Jedi series, and any other stories that have gone back that far, is that they all retell Darth Vader's story over and over again, just with different characters.

The jedi are always being wiped out by sith lords in a war that engulfs the galaxy, the ending of which often eludes to the return of the jedi. When I watched that second trailer that was released for the TOR game, I could swear that the troopers were Jango Fett clones.

I can see why George Lucas would have no interest in telling that story more than once, when he can just build upon the story and characters that he's already developed. Not that KOTOR is bad. I find enjoyment in those games, but other than a bunch of scoundrels running around with swords, those games and comics aren't much different than his movies.
