I just read the belgariad and the mallorean through a second time, and at the end of The Seeress of Kell, Beldin and Vella turned into hawks and flew away, but there's this one sentence that they were "never again to return".

but isnt beldin immortal? and vella mortal, so does that mean that beldin lived out the rest of his life as a hawk? o.o

I always thought it was just shorthand for "...as his work was done, and peace restored, so he felt no need to continue being involved in things...."

could be his time was over. time to have a bunch of blue and lavender banded hawks by starting a new species. no idea if in a few decades there was a medium detonation as the father of the species willed himself out of existence to find the mother....

But remember Belgarath said that it wasn't true immortality but that they only lived as long as they needed to do do their job (Or something) so Beldin could have become mortal. (Or Vella could have become Immortal)

However I could be wrong as I haven't read the books in a while

Sorcerers live as long as they chose to/o.I'd bet Aldur had a hand in there longevity or Eriond did. It's his world after all.'08.

I just read it that they went off independently to do their own thing, leaving the rest of the "family" to do whatever was necessary.

I wonder if they kept on bein hawks or reverted back and forth.'08.

Beldin may have been able to... but Vella was still just a mortal... Beldin may have been able to turn her back, but she would have been unable to do it herself... unless a change like Durnik's occurred... or she was more Poledra-like than we are led to believe.

This was such a sweet part in the books and I really wish that David Eddings had written a story about Beldin and Vella because their romance was soo cute!

I think that maybe because Vella can now change herself into a hawk maybe she's either borrowed the power from Beldin or she has a little bit of the Will and the Word that she'll live long enough. Or, it could be like Poledra - who as a wolf, can live as long as she chooses.

If Vella did die, then Beldin would most likely will himself out of existence.

Also, anyone else go a bit mushy at that part?! WHY IS THERE NO EXTRA STORY!?!
Also Mr Eddings, you left so many gaps and loose ends that could be made into a possible story. :'(

Please tell me I'm not alone in my mushiness?! I just wish there was another story because the series(s) were so good!! :D

Barak could shape change without being a sorcerer. I believe that this is what happened to Vella. She learned to change with Beldin's help at first and then she would have been able to do it herself with his teaching. She loved to dance and flying is much like that, only in far more scope and depth. Should she require anything, then Beldin would provide it for her. And she would always have been able to speak with Polgara no matter what her shape was.
