I’m not much of a fantasy reader, but I like her Vorsikan Sci-Fi series. I’ve gotten through Mirror Dance so far. As an intro book to Bujold’s Sci-Fi, Falling Free seems to be overlooked. It was the 4th or 5th one written (or published) in the series, but it’s listed as first in the story chronology. It’s a stand-alone story and doesn’t feature Miles, the main character of the series. Nonetheless, it’s a good stand-alone book and a good introduction to Bujold. It won the 1988 Nebula for best novel. I liked it quite a bit.

Help! I've purchased the eBook from Franklin but the site won't let me download it. I'm running Mobipocket Reader on Win XP and gave the PID number. Any advice?

I finally acquired The Vor Game eBook elsewhere, but never was able to download it from franklin.com and so far despite writing to them three times I haven't had a reply or a refund. I'm sure they do have satisfied customers, but I'm not one of them so wanted to leave this warning for others to see.

You mean nobody ever told you that this was a dangerous board to read? So many good books mentioned that you just have to have in some form or other.

So, I snapped up an eReader for a good price, waited WEEKS for it to arrive in the UK and now carry it everywhere with me, currently loaded to the gunnels with more Vorkosigan stories. Am currently half way through Mirror Dance. I love the twists and turns of the plot and the characterisation. As if it weren't enough to have invented the unforgettable Miles there's now a (sshh, you know what)! My cup runneth over.

Im reading Shards of Honor right now as my first read of this writer.

I think she is a decent writer so far but im not too keen on her trying too much with flowery words. I can see the romance stuff in the book but no need to make the characters sound like they are in one of those erotic romance books you see in every kiosk.

So far the only reason i keep reading the book are Aral's history and the people he is from sound interesting. If it is as Anthony G W is saying more romance than SF in this book and the others in this series, i wont read more.

I dont like Romance dressed as SF. I dont care if she have won most hugo in the last 30 years if all the books in this series are written like this.

Don't give up yet. At least try The Warrior's Apprentice. You might like that much better.

Im not giving up. I like the story when you get to know more about the characters and their worlds, when its SF like i like it. Barrayar sounds very interesting world.

When Cordellia pines after Aral and acts like a damsel in distress when she is actually a captain i dont like.....

Aral is right in Betan they give away ranks to everyone


How is the balance of Romance and SF in the other books? Im wondering that. That will break or make the series for me. That book you mention, heh the titel is promising.

Curse of Chalion is bar none one of the greatest books i have ever read. cannot recommend it enough...

Can i read The Warrior's Apprentice after Shards of Honor ?

I dont really care about chrono order, i wanna read Miles and see if i like her main character and what his series about before deciding to read the book in the correct order.

What you could do is log on to the Baen Free Library. Bujold's novella Mountains of Mourning is on there. It would give you an idea of Miles' character.

I just cant read books on the comp. Its impossible for me.

Ethan of Athos sounds too much like Shards of Honor. It doesnt even appear to be about Miles.

The two Sharing Knife books were good, I recommend them. Though like said earlier, they are more romance. Theres more books for the series to come though, which is nice.

No, it's not, though it does have shared characters, Conn.

The chronological order of Miles' books after Shards is:

• "Borders of Infinity" (short story)
• Brothers in Arms
• Borders of Infinity (book)
• Mirror Dance
• Memory
• Komarr
• A Civil Campaign
• "Winterfair Gifts"
• Diplomatic Immunity

And it can be difficult reading them out of order, because there are frequent references to events from the books before, but it is possible. You can even miss out the short stories if you like - they're interesting, but not essential to the main story covered by the novels.
