What do you think the word she screamed was?
Anyone think we should have a poll?
Just in case theres already a thread i wont add one but i thought possible "last" word could have been:
    Tarth
    Father,
    Mother
    Mercy
Arya (Sp?) perhaps the only word that could grant her reprieve from hanging as everyone thinks she's dead.

Interestingly enough, "Thanks!" is Brienne's last word.

I'm not sure what she called out but I think UnCat already knows Arya is or was still alive at the time of the red wedding because the outlaws question Merret Frey on wether he saw Sandor at the wedding with either a boy or girl. still, yelling out Arya might of gotten a reprieve because they likely want to know where she is now.

I go for the "Ice" theory as Stoneheart conveniently asks her the name of the sword and says no whe she says "Oathkeeper". It was right after this that she's ordered to be hanged. Question to those who actually put forward the theory: Does she even know that Oathkeeper was forged from Ice? Did Jaime know and tell het?

I think Brienne does know that Oathkeeper was Ice becuase Jaime told her she'd be defending Ned Stark's blood with Ned Stark's sword or something like that.

But when Uncat says "NO" to Oathkeeper, I think it is just so she can be mocking by calling it Oathbreaker not because UnCat knows it is Ice.

Well, she does take a real hard and long look at the sword before asking Brienne its name, which I thought was odd when I first read it and put two and two together.

Well I doubt she could look at it and tell since it adds that new fire engine red tinge to the old Valyrian Steel. But I guess her zombie powers could help her.

I think Brienne finally said the word that we've all been wanting someone to say to Catelyn... it begins with a b and ends in itch.

At heart, I am a romantic... I think she called "Jaime." (which is what she did while semi conscious)

And I reckon (no evidence) that she DOES die (ie the word she cries doesn't save her and she is hanged)... and THEN!!! Thoros (the "pink priest") breathes her back to life!!!!

    Regards,
    Dyffeg

Any clue as to whose arms she had painted on her shield? Is this even important because GRRM does spend some time on this. I mean she even spends the night in Maidenpool for the woman to paint it for her.

The device on Brienne's shield seems to be from the short story of Dunk... don't know the name of it. This was discussed somewhere, but I can't find it.

I just reread Brienne's last POV.

Perhaps she screams "Jaime." Doing so could be to proclaim her affection for the Kingslayer because when she dreams early in the chapter and thinks she's going to die she screams "Jaime." On the other hand, she may call out Jaime's name as affirmation that she will choose to kill Jaime for Stoneheart.

The thing is... she's looking at Podrick Payne and thinking how unfair it is for him to die (she could care less about Ser Hyle Hunt). So I think she thinks of something to say that may gain a reprieve for Pod...

She has the arms of Dunk the Tall painted on her shield. He was the captain of the Kingsguard for Aegon, Maester Aemon's brother, I believe. I'm thinking that maybe the Tarth arms are derived from Dunk the Tall's arms- the whole star/evenfall thing...

Aha! Another Targaryen link. This is becoming like a Maester's chain as the prieces start to fall in place. Brienne has an important part to play yet and I think it has to do with Dany, the dragon's, Arya, Sansa and Jaime. Still working on a theory...Maybe Boaz can help with something wild...

I reread Brienne's last POV last night... If you want my wild opinion... she's dead. Ned, Catelyn, Robb, Syrio, Visaerys, Drogo, Oberyn, Tywin, and others all could have used a very timely plot twist to save their hides... they all died. Only Tyrion, Jon, and Dany have had death postponed... okay Joff, Cersei, Sansa, Arya, Bran, might have all been pulled from the brink also, but Martin has no mercy for his characters. He does not seem intent on a Hollywood ending.

What could Brienne possibly say to prevent her death (and Pod's and Hyle's)? She does not know about Bran and Rickon, she's dumbfounded as to Sansa's whereabouts, and she thinks Arya jumped on a ship. That's not a lot of good intel to please the Hangwoman. Brienne does not believe in R'hllor nor will claiming love for Renly or Jaime appease Stoneheart.

I'd like to think that Brienne still has a part to play, but she's in an impossible position. She has three broken ribs, a broken arm, half her face is gone, and she's bound securely and swinging from a noose... MacGuyver and James Bond might get out of that predicament, but not Brienne.

I'd like to think that Brienne can help herself, Pod, and Jaime find redemption and fulfillment. Only two things can save Brienne now... that word that she screams or a rescue. We've discussed the word and concluded that we don't really know what she screams. As to a rescue, who would do it? Jaime, the Knight of the Mouse, Sandor, Ser Kevan, or Lord Tarly seem to be the only ones remotely capable of this. They are all in the vicinity, some of them are looking for Beric's men, some of them could be looking for Brienne, and Sandor might be trying to clear his name. It's all guesswork... sorry I don't have anything really intriuging to add.
