Short story early 70’s?: On an alien planet about to explode, a crew member is imbedded in a funeral procession up a mountain

They have to place a bag of remains from their previous leader on top of the mountain. The rest of the crew are worried that they have to blast off before the planet explodes and might have to leave behind the imbedded scientist.
 
Sorry. I have nothing to add. My granddaughter added a response, and I can't seem to find a way to delete it.
