The Tolkien Trail

I wonder, has anyone else completed this walk? It's in the area around Stonyhurst College, where JRR stayed when writing LOTR.

I have previously journeyed to Hurst Green (where the trail starts and ends), and it certainly is a picturesque 7.5 mile walk, with some very Ent-like trees.

Did Tolkien mention in any of his writing that the area around Stonyhurst inspired him?
