The Fall- the subway system thru Earth's Interior - was the concept used in Total Recall (2012 film) but I read a book years ago, with that concept and it's destruction. The 1990 film of the same name, which was inspired by the 1966 short story "We Can Remember It for You Wholesale" by Philip K. Dick is the version where the hero goes to Mars. But the 2012 movie takes place on Earth and involves the 'subway/elevator' thru the interior of the planet. I can find no reference to the book in the movie information, but I know I read it. I'm 70 years old - I could have read it anywhere from 1970-2010.

Possibly David Walton’s story “Letting Go” (2008), which involves an elevator through the core of the moon for travel from one side to the other.
