The plot is that a young man was captured during a pirate raid, and even though he disagreed with what the pirates do, he 'pretends' to be just a ruthless, and becomes the leader of the space pirates. As soon as he is the leader, he fakes his death, takes a lot of the loot, changes his identity, and starts a new life fighting the pirates. The book starts with the pirate leader faking his death and changing his genetic coding, getting a new identity.

Haven't been able to find this book as I forgot the title. Hope this forum can help!!!

Hi,

Refuge - the first book of the bio of a space tyrant books by Piers Anthony?

Cheers, Greg.
Thanks for the info. After looking up "Refuge", it doesn't appear to be the book I'm seeking. The book I recall reading spanned the whole galaxy and wasn't confined to the Sol System.

This sounds like the Vorkosigan series where Miles Vorkosigan takes on the Persona of Admiral Naismith.

Could it be The Man Who Used the Universe by Alan Dean Foster?
