I was given this book in the early 2000s but judging from how ragged my copy was id say it came out in the 70s-80s?
It was about a man living in a society very similar to Orwell's 1984. He starts to doubt the society and meets up with a group of people. I think they met in a museum?
Eventually him and his girlfriend/wife escape to the island they discovered. But in the end of the book you find out that the island was a government ploy to get rid of delinquents like them.
Keep in mind I was 14 when I read this and its been awhile so I cant say for sure how accurate it all is but these are the main points I remember. Im dying to read it again.
