Pretty sure this book was written before 1988. The cover shows the two men grown one in a hovercraft confronting/attacking the other on the ground who is the Nature raised man.
I just recall the two ended up on the planet "somehow". One awoke in a cavern and some AI awoke and started conversing with him and then proceeded to educate him in all things advanced technology. The other boy(teen?) awoke or is found in the woods by some nature type beings who proceed to educate him in the ways of all things natural. Inevitably the two young men end up having a confrontation. I believe the technology user wanted to do more with tech and the natural supporter was saying it would hurt the planet (imagine, such a common theme for a novel....) so they fought. I have taken a look at Zelazny's Madwand and do not believe that is it.
