Super heatwaves to hit Middle East?

We see a lot about deserts come up in SF and YA fiction, but here's something else to consider when writing about that environment - the potential for "super heatwaves" - which are now being predicted to occur at the end of this century in the Middle East:

Scientists have estimated that by the end of the century some parts of the Persian Gulf will suffer heatwaves that are too hot for the human body to survive.

By 2100, parts of Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and others will experience combinations of temperature and humidity which make the deadly 2003 heat wave in Europe “look like a refreshing day”.

Checking this out led to some interesting thoughts and more interesting searches; into science that intersected along strange lines and I might have been gone for an hour or so.
