Looking for story "The lost captain" or something like that?

It was about in the year 2006 - 2008 that I used to have an audio book file. I do not remember if I got it on iTunes or somewhere else. It was a science fiction story and I know the whole story had several books. The title could have been "The lost captain", or "The last captain" or maybe "The lost commander" or something like that. Unfortunately I do not remember any specifics about the story either, just something about a spaceship crew investigating on some strange planet or something. I do remember the cover picture had a drawing of a person in front in the middle and other people in the background. Does anybody know what story this is - what is its exact title and the author?
 
The first book in Jack Campbell's Lost Fleet series appeared in 2006 but 'investigating on some strange planet' doesn't really fit.
 
Maybe I had the story wrong in my mind, but after googling the title and seeing the cover art - I think this is exactly the one I was looking for! Thanks so much! :)
