80's Interplanetary serial killer with alien mantis henchman

I saw this described on another search site with no responses and am trying to locate it:
70's/80's Dark Sci-fi novel about a cop/detective in the future chasing a serial killer with an alien/insectoid sidekick...
It's a hardboiled paperback about a human detective pursuing a serial killer between planets and across the galaxy. The serial killer is human but had an alien henchman that looked like a 7ft tall praying mantis and would eat people as payment.
Gritty, noir-ish, full of sex and violence. Possibly from the early 70's to the mid 80's from maybe Tor or Ballantine.
 
This question or a variation of it has been populating boards for years. Closest I’ve seen to a match is The Antenna Syndrome by Alan Marks (1979). Hard boiled crime, sci fi world, mantis aliens, seems a close fit. Just look at the cover:
