When the Oscar for best film is considered, the members of the academy vote for the best film from a shortlist of five films.

But it is believed that as from next year the short list will be stretched out to ten films, this follows the last Oscar ceremony when there was several good films left off the list such as the Dark Knight, Iron Man and Wall-E.

Could this mean that science fiction will at last be in with a chance of taking the best film?

Maybe not the best film but the main thing is that at the next Oscar ceremony Star Trek will be up there and in with a chance walking away with the top prize.

It has taken a long time, but at least now science fiction will be up there with the other genres and it is about time too.
