Some more rumour material has popped up on the next Terminator film today.
If you’ve been following developments on T5, then you’ll know that Justin Lin is – or was – on board as the director.
Back in May it was even rumoured that the entire original cast, or as much of it as possible, could be brought back to film the fifth instalment. But Lin quickly denied this was the case.
Having said that, Arnie is on board to come back and do his deadpan hardman posing thing. But it would seem that perhaps Lin now isn’t.
At least according to Deadline, who note that producer Megan Ellison (who bought the rights) and Schwarzenegger are both keen to get Terminator 5 done as swiftly as possible. The sooner they can do it, the more mileage they can get out of those rights.
And with a potential late 2012 date on the cards to start shooting the movie, that causes a problem for Lin, who is committed to doing The Fast and the Furious 6.
So this schedule clash could mean that Terminator 5 is looking for a new director, which could delay it further. Indeed, it’s still wanting in the script department, and quite where they’re going to take the story is anyone’s guess.
As we’ve previously said, it seems unlikely – and it certainly wouldn’t be a popular move with many of the fans – that they’d try to pick up where Terminator Salvation left off.
An alternative route is much likely to be explored, following on from Terminator 2 or heading off on some other tangent. Terminator Twins, perhaps; one’s tall, one’s short and fat and used to be in Taxi.
