Around 2009/10 I had an operation on my eyes and listened to an audiobook while I was recovering. I never got around to listening to the end of it and for the life of me cannot remember what it is called.

I remember there were two concurrent storylines.

One was a robot/android in space who had to make a difficult decision.

The other was an adventure in a land where the cities were bordered by walls. The natives thought that there was nothing outside these walls.

Sorry for the vague description but I hope that it might twig a memory in someone.

Thanks

Ian

Found it, it came to me in a dream.

It's Pathfinder by Orson Scott Card. Time to read it and see whether my description was at all accurate!!

I'm so ignorant, I'd never heard it before ... but as you describe it, it seems very interesting ;)

Now that's funny. I have a copy of it on my TBR shelf, but didn't think of it when I first saw the question.
