Unless I'm completely missing something, I don't think there is a thread yet to discuss the happenings for Season 2, so I thought I would do the honors.

Also, I started this thread in the GRRM forum as opposed to the Game of Thrones forum so we could discuss some of the news/castings as they relate to events in the books. This way we don't have to worry about spoilers. So, for newbies who haven't read past AGOT (or read the books at all)...

*SPOILERS MAY BE FOUND HERE*

The first bit of casting news (that I'm aware of) has been released. Natalie Dormer (of The Tudors fame) has been cast as Margaery Tyrell.

I think this is quite a catch for the series and I think she will make a great Margaery. They did age her up quite a bit, but they have been doing that for many characters so that really shouldn't come as too big of a shock. I'm looking forward to the scenes between her and Cersei.

Miaow...She was very caliente as Anne in the Tudors. Can't wait.

This is very interesting interview with Weiss and Benioff on season 2.

http://winter-is-coming.net/2011/06/benioff-and-weiss-talk-season-two/

Basically, they are still rewritting part of the script, we will see more Robb Stark and Jaime in season 2 than they appeared in the ACOK. They will also move up some scenes from ASOS to season 2, particularly dealing with Jaime.

Wow, Anne Boleyn from Tudors? She is an amazing actress. I echo Lady on awaiting her scenes with Cersie. There will be some heavy tension as both of them have a powerful onscreen presence.

Thanks for the link TK, I like the idea about ending Season 2 with Jaime losing his ability to become HAND ;)

I too understand how difficult it would have been to have the build up of "KING OF THE NORTH" with Robb to only lose him for a year. With Ned, Drogo, and other fan favorites gone, i can imagine the backlash if they leave out alot of Jaime and Robb for Season 2. I'm torn between wanting the story to stay on track, but also wanting the TV Series to do well without too much confusion, and loss of interest from the non readers.

I'm assuming the gratuitous sex scenes are a thing of the past as there is alot of important scenes to fill that space as the series continues.

Firstly, I am *ecstatic* about Natalie Dormer's casting as Margaery Tyrell. She was utterly amazing as Anne Boleyn in "The Tudors," capturing the unfortunate queen's unrelenting ambition and cunning with the juxtaposition of her vulnerability and humanity. She's absolute perfect. I'm in full agreement with Lady and xLordSnowx that the scenes between Cersei and Margaery with this powerhouse casting are going to be phenomenal.

I can't wait to see how the rest of the casting comes along! :D

I don't think it's going to be so much of the story going off-track as much as a rearrangement of things in order to make sure the series doesn't get stagnant.

You can stay engrossed in a book during a lull in pace because it still stimulates your brain. As film is visual and leaves a lot less to the imagination, a sudden stagnation in pace can be acute, causing views to lose interest much more quickly. By reordering some of the events to keep pacing in the show on an even keel, it will keep those who have not yet read the books engaged and interested. (Example Lord of the Rings: In the books Frodo and Sam encounter Shelob in the second half of "The Two Towers," but the film version puts it halfway through "Return of the King" in order to build up anticipation and thus make it more climatic.)

As to the gratuitous sex, you raise an excellent point that there is far too much "important stuff" going on in CoK and SoS to leave any room for needless smut, but alas, it is HBO, so I think we'll still get plenty of eye-fulls. (I wonder if it's in the contract or something, like an HBO requirement. "You will only get your show produced and run on this network if you meet the mandatory x% of smut per episode.") But still, we can dare to dream.

And additional thanks to TK for the link.

It makes me a little nervous that they are rearranging and changing things from the books for Season 2. However I completely understand their reasoning, and they did a great job with Season 1, so I will try and trust that they can do it successfully. And giving Robb more screen time is definately a good thing. ;)

And it looks like the direwolves could possibly be CGI? Anyway, there is going to be a new FX company for Season 2.

I found this article that says that Martin will be writing the 9th episode of the series which will be the Battle of Blackwater Bay

http://www.dailyblam.com/news/2011/...ason-2-episode-featuring-violent-ship-battles

And also this - http://tv.yahoo.com/news/article/us...es-season-2-casting-confirmations-and-rumors- which as Tony Curran http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0192889/ and Christopher Eccleston http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001172/ are rumoured to being considered for the show. Curran's appearance would fit will as Edmure Tully and I think Eccleston would make a decent Stannis.

I understand complaints about the abundance of sex scenes (although not about the sex parts) but they also use them to their great advantage. as Doreah aptly said, men like to talk after they have sex (paraphrasing), and so they used the whores , roz in particular, to get as much exposition out as they could while still having something to watch (the sex). Think about all those scenes you are complaining about, and imagine if those scenes were instead just scenes of people sitting and talking . . . i imagine you are not so upset about the sex, correct?

Hoping they add plenty of Tyrion and Bronn bromance. Infact, I really hope they focus on KL and cut down Jon and Dany. I was glad to see that they weren't scared to do entire episodes without either of them appearing.

Stannis, KL, Robb (and by proxy, Cat) and Theon should be carrying this season.

Wybren:

GRRM has been talking a bit writing that episode in his blog and he just delivered the script:

http://grrm.livejournal.com/

Also, it is being reported that Christopher Eccleston is doubtful for joining the case of GOT and these were rumors:

http://winter-is-coming.net/2011/06/eccleston-to-join-thrones-doubtful/

The jury is still out on Tony Curran:

Yea man, when I come to think of it, Branagh's adaption of Hamlet should have had more tits and asses too. I mean dialogue...words at all. Who needs them? Am I right?

Next time I'm making a presentation I think I'm just going to put some porn playing on the background. To get the audience on the same level with me you know.

No but seriously... Dialogues can be great. I think even the Tywin&Jaime&TheDeer scene proved it. You don't need boobs to get the message across. The only reason why they picked the boobs route is that taking this road gives the "simple folk" the content in a dipping sauce they like it with. And quite frankly nowadays that seems to be the only way how to get shows running.

One of the coolest flicks i've seen lately was My Dinner With Andre. The sad thing is that making a movie like that these days would mean that you'd have to 100% finance it yourself because unless it has action + sex it won't get financed.

GOT has a splendid cast, they could pull off brilliant static scenes that would be around just dialogue...Yet that would be a risk I suppose...

Personally I think Patrick Stewart would be the perfect Stannis.

Recent GRRM interview:

The Wall Street Journal: So I understand you’re writing an episode of next season’s “Game of Thrones” called “Blackwater.”
George R.R. Martin: I’m just finishing that as we’re speaking right now. I have it on the screen sitting in front of me.
A lot of people would like to see that.
It’s done, I’m just doing the final touches on it and I’ll be shooting it off to [executive producers] David [Benioff] and Dan [Weiss], the first draft anyway. Yes, it’s episode nine of the second season.
Is it about the Battle of the Blackwater?
Battle of the Blackwater Rush, yes indeed.
That sounds great.
Well I hope so. We’re trying. It’s going to be enormously expensive. There’s always the problem—when you write books, you can have everything be as big as you want, you can have all special effects budget in the world and you can have thousands of fighters and all that. But then when you actually put it on screen, it’s a little more challenging. So if anyone has an extra couple of million dollars they could give us, we could make the battle even bigger.
With how well your books are selling, you could self-fund the battle scenes.
Yeah, well that’s a thought. Don’t tell that to HBO. I don’t want that idea to go any further.
