Tyrion his favorite character, although he's differetn from him in many ways.

    Bran the hardest to write

Dothraki could be compared to the Mongols, and other Steppe people, also American Indians

Spends a lot of time on characters names. Wanted the names to reflect the history and ancestory.

"Almost finished with this damned book"

The Black Dinner, an event in Scottish history, inspiored The Red Wedding

Great find. Always interesting to get the inside scoop.
George is very human, and down to earth.
I've listened to other authors do podcasts
who were hard to relate to.

You really get a sense of the complexity of writing a sotry such as ASOIAF when you listen to GRRM talk about even a simple thing, such as naming characters. He clearly puts a tremendous ammount of thought into even the most mundane details, and it shows in the quality of the writing and story.

I can relate to him there. I changed a character's name two or three times in the last couple weeks. I hope to be satisfied with it now, but who know what I'll think next week?
