A while back i was browsing random articles on wikipedia, and i read a synopsis of a sci fi book
basically the plot is earth is fighting and interstellar war, and losing, and a pilot gets lost, and comes across a race that had been defeated by earth enemy before.

does this ring a bell with anyone??

Cheers

There were no starships in Battlefield Earth - it was all teleportation.

More precisely, starships were only marginally mentioned in Battlefield Earth. They could be used for travel but were not financially feasible for commerce. They make an appearance near the end of the story when the "government honchos" (I have no idea what they were actually called.) Come to earth to negotiate the resumption of trade via teleportation.

David Weber in "The Apocalypse Troll" has a twist in some ways the opposite of what you are talking about. A human star fighter pilot gets blown into an alternate universe at a time before the aliens, his advanced time has all but beaten, show up. If you like military SF you might like this one.
