Having just completed the trilogy (again). I couldn't help feel sorry for the poor Orc's.

They aren't schzophrenic, the World is genuinely after them. Not just the goody-two-shoes elves, dwarves, men, trees, eagles; but from their own kind as well. Nor is their any concern from their master.

Yet when you listen to them talking they are no worse than any other group that know they have, as usual, been given the grotty end of the stick. They are also capable of crude compassion, showing care and loyalty for their own small clique, even taking some care of their priconers
Even Frodo was given food and drink when he was captured

One can hear the defence lawyers now. "M'Lud, my client is unable to control his actions. He was abandoned by his parents, beaten by his peers, tortured by his employer, and chased by all that meet him."

Won't someone say a kind word for the Orc's?

I'm sorry but the Orcs are bloomin' ugly. Who would want one of those around? Perhaps to make them feel better about themselves.

ya the orcs got it bad...wouldn't want one in my house tho...they kinda smell.

but the Uruk-Hai - they another story - they are ALL evil cos they are half-breeds created by Saruman...so no comassion for them.

but you know me - I love the elves..!

    But looks aren't everything-

I know a woman that looks as if she was involved with a head on smash with a juggernaut, whilst bungee jumping from a high tension electric pylon. But she is a lovely person to know!

You're right! Let's all join together in a big group hug! Elf and dwarf and orc and........ annoying midgey things...... And enjot our differences! Like furry feet, murderous tendancies and shiny hair.......

    Yrch indeed, Leggy.

I can sympathise with the orcs, but I ain't touching one. They are gooey an' slimey an' icky. They'd ruin my shirt. And prolly stain my skin a dirty brown that would never wash out.

    Orcist? Wasn't that Gandalf's sword?

And I said i sympathise with them! I just don't want to touch one! You know, it is like: I like snakes, I just won't TOUCH one, cuz they are icky feeling.

    you've EATEN a snake?

Ya snakes dont feel icky they just like...bumpy!

Orcrist was Thorin Oakenshields sword form the hobbit, Glamdring was Gandalfs sword. Orcrist means biter and Glamdring meand beater i think.

Yes. Air Force survival training. It were a grass snake if I remember.
Also on the menu- Hedgehog (very 'earthy' flavour), beetle (blanch sixty seconds, nice crunch) and a number of things much less appealing

I don't think you can complain about my eating habits then. At least I was hungry at the time. All they gave us at the beginning of the five day trek was a small packet of Calhard and Bowsers. :D
