    Terry Brooks

The Running With the Demon series is urban fantasy and very good. A complete departure from the sword and sorcery type story. I think he said he was hoping to write another modern fantasy in this series.

    The Briar King (Book Club)

Charnel Prince just came out in hardbound recently, so it will be a while for paperback. I think Cazio is definately Spanish. He reminds me very much of the spaniard in The Princess Bride. The best thing about this book is the character development. Even minor characters such as Cazio and...

    January Journeys into literature

Just to keep up the tally- I finished Briar King and Charnel Prince by Greg Keyes and now I am reading Ironfire, by David Ball. This book was recommended by GRR Martin on his web site. It is the story of Malta and the history of the area leading up to the last battle of the Crusades. Good...

    Help?

After a certain period of time lyrics go into the public domain and can be used by anyone. There are sites on the internet that will give you the info you need. Just google it. I read somewhere that if you quote a line or two it isnt so critical, but if you look up the legal aspects it will...

Robin Hobb is a great choice. Her books will take you to a whole new world as vast and interesting as Martin's. I read all nine books this last year. Good stuff!

To Your Scattered Bodies Go: Philip Jose Farmer

I read this series about 30 years ago and it has remained one of my favs. I love all the historical characters. Another one of Farmer's that I have in my collection is Mother Was a Lovely Beast-adifferent take on the Tarzan story. I am a big E.R. Burrroughs fan.

    Who has a book?

It has been a busy holiday and I just found this thread. I am happy to talk about my book :) I don't know how everyone got the links in their message so let me just say that everything is on my web site at www.makeesee.com. There are links to some online reviews, an online interview I did...

    January Journeys into literature

I am reading Eve, by our own Aurelio O"Brien. Just 40 pages in, but it is quite an interesting twist on a utopian story. I love his quirky sense of humor. I just finished Fool's Fate, the last book in Robin Hobb's Farseer series. I read all nine books this year and now I am having Hobb...

    Greg Keyes

I read the Briar King when it first came out and now I have the Charnal Prince to read. I want to reread Briar King first to refresh my memory. It is a marvelous story. I recall being very impressed with the characters. I did not find the pace at all slow. I have been recommending Briar...

    Book Hauls!

Re: Recent Buys I haven't bought many books this month as I still have a stack from the last few months to read. I did purchase Eve, a book written by a poster here named O'Brien and Polar Express( a christmas gift) I just started reading The Tawny Man series that I purchased in the summer...

    Publish and be damned

I just found this thread so I am late to add my two cents. Also, it has taken me half the morning just to wade through the postings :) This is a heated topic on every forum I have seen it posted. The reason it is, I believe, is because writers who are not self published look down their...

Coming Soon: LosCon...Help lma decide which panels to go to

It sounds like there will be more than enough to keep you busy and no matter which panels you decide to go to-you will be in for a treat. It sounds like I will be at GenCon in Anaheim the same weekend you will be in LA. I will be on the other end of the table, though. I will be selling my...

    Kage Baker

I read The Garden if Iden about a year ago and thought it was okay. I like Connie Willis' style much more. I did read Anvil of the World, Baker's fantasy novel and I loved it.

    Make your pick for November

I voted for Briar King. Although I have read it before, I plan to read it again because the second volume is out and I want to refresh my memory. I read Princess Bride some years ago and have seen the movie 50 times. While it is a cute story, there is little to warrant an indepth discussion...

    October Suggestions

I love GRR Martin, but his books are way too long...The Elizabeth Haydon sounds intriguing as well as the Man who Folded Himself? (Have I got that right?) Another one that I would recommend is the Briar King, by Greg Keyes. Outstanding fantasy and the second one in the series just came out. I...

    Back again!

Thanks for taking a look. I keep adding more to it. My partner had surgery so we have been taking trips to the doctor all week and I haven't been able to do much new. I updated my reading list, as that is always changing.
