    What we're reading in April...

I'm reading Martha Wells' Death of the Necromancer.

Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell (Book Club)

I agree with this- I would have LOVED to know more especially about Childermass, Arabella, and Stephen Black. I found Arabella to be such a delightful character, and I didn't think Strange deserved her, really ;-) It seemed like he ignored her through most of their marriage, then mourned her...

    Kurt Vonnegut Dies

Oh, wow- I've only ever read one of his books, I think. But he was a powerhouse, and will be missed.

    What we're reading in April...

I can see why :-) It's fast, but really beautifully presented. I like it!

What Anime and Animation are you currently watching?

I just finished up the BBC/Masterpiece Theater mini-series Bleak House last night (the one with Gillian Anderson). Excellent! I also have DVR'd Discovery Channel's Planet Earth in HD- I'm pretty excited about that, too!

What was the last movie you saw?

I saw the Hindi movie The Guru. It was pretty good, but I still don't like Aishwarya Rai/Abhishek Bachchan together, even if they are engaged in real-life as well! The movie I *want* to see is 300. It sounds good. As does the one with Adam Sandler and Don Cheadle- Reign Over me?

Who is the best Historical Fiction author?

Wow- I had the complete opposite reaction to Pillars of the Earth! I had a fairly lukewarm reaction to it, and I don't think it was very historically accurate, in some parts. I think you'll be interested to know, though, that a sequel is in the works. I also really didn't like The Historian...

    Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell.

I enjoyed the book a lot, but I'm a bit of a sucker for the Regency era of English history! I did find the footnotes somewhat distracting, at first, but once I realized that they were fully integrated into the rhythm of the story, I got more used to them. That said, I don't know when I will...

    It's March and we're reading...?

Ooh, that's exciting, Werthead! Please let us know how it is. I'm looking forward to that one. I'm still reading Mysteries of Udolpho, and also A Body in the Bathhouse, by Lindsey Davis.

What do modern-day readers want from books? (and other thought-provoking questions)

Re: What do modern-day readers want from books? (and other thought-provoking question This is interesting, as I was just discussing this on a Fantasy Yahoo group I'm a part of. I really love Kay's Lions of Al-Rassan and A Song for Arbonne. But I don't particularly care for Tigana and I think...

    It's March and we're reading...?

Oh, so true! Actually, I think Marcus and Helena are great together, so I shall continue to love him from afar and settle for seeing him living fairly happily, 2,000 years before my time. Excellent to hear! I really should get reading on Falco again- so much to read, so little time! I don't...

    It's March and we're reading...?

How was Saturnalia? That one isn't out in the US yet, I don't think. I haven't been reading my Falcos as quickly as I used to, though! Next one up for me is A Body in the Bathhouse. I have a biblio-crush on Marcus Didius Falco. What a guy :)

    It's March and we're reading...?

Is this your first time reading Lions of Al-Rassan? That's my favorite Kay work. Though I also really like Song for Arbonne. I guess my favorite at any given time depends on my mood.

    Wilkie Collins

Haha- I could do that. Or I could slowly ruin your reading enjoyment by highly recommending books I think you'll hate!

    It's March and we're reading...?

Yes, and a leisurely read it will be- we're scheduled to read it until the end of April. So eight weeks should be enough, I hope. If you've read the book and would like to join discussion, please feel free to join the Yahoo Group BritishClassics. I'm also now listening to Sabriel, by Garth...
