Some thoughts on the direction Fantasy seems to be heading -- present and future.

I am bothered by this too. This is why I am such a picky reader. I started writing because I couldn't find anything that I liked to read. Violence for violence's sake doesn't appeal to me. I can't and won't read a book unless it has good characterization, world building and is well written...

Some Musings on Originality (and Style)

Thank you for posting this! There has been times when I became discouraged thinking that what I was writing probably has already been done. With all the books out there how could it not? I thought maybe the characters and their reactions would make it different. I still had doubts and didn't...

    I've lost the plot!

This always works for me. I recently encountered this problem and in my frustration I went back and looked over my outline which presented a whole bunch of new ideas. I also read books totally off the subject. I was surprised that this really helped because I ended up finding a solution far...

    Jim Butcher's The Dresden Files

Another fan here! Thanks for posting this. I had the pleasure of hearing him speak yesterday and found him very entertaining. So much so had to go out and buy the first book in the series. Now I am plotting my purchases of the rest of the books in the series.

Fantasy Books with LOTS of magic use

I agree. I am currently reading his series and I am enjoying them greatly. I recently heard Jim Butcher speak and he mentioned the Dresden Files were picked up by the SciFi channel. I think the series is due to air in January. Also Teresa Edgerton/Madeline Howard writes with a lot of magic in...

Thanks for suggesting this! I finally got two of these drives. It is amazing how easy it is to use these and make backups. Now I have no excuse not to write! Thanks again!

    Child of Saturn

Your characters coming from dreams isn't odd or at least I don't think so. Most of my ideas do come from dreams or are inspired by them. Now I don't feel so crazy. Thanks for sharing that!

    Please Recommend me a Book

You might try Teresa Edgerton's books if you can find them. Especially the ones set in the kingdom of Celydonn.

    Fairy Tales Retold

I have to agree with littlemissattitude about Enchantment. It is a very good read. I enjoyed it. I seem to enjoy stories that are based loosely on fairy tales better than ones that follow them closely. If it is just loosely based then the author can take unexpected twists and turns and...

Your favorite author - taking it to the next level

I don't think it is neccessary to collector everything from your favorite author. For me it is enough just to have the great stories they tell but I do admit I have all the books of my favorite author, Teresa Edgerton and the ones I enoyed the most by George R R Martin.

Thanks for posting this. I already have all her books but I am sure others will find this helpful. All of Teresa's book are well worth the effort of getting them.

Questions you always wanted to ask a published author

This might be a silly question but I am curious what is the best way to save a writing project? For example I started out with saving my work on a floppy disk but fortunately (meaning I succeeded in writing enough to fill one) the file became too big to save the whole thing on one. Then I got...
