    Another giant squid story

Hahah, I like the way it shrinks between the two news articles (originally estimated at up to 20 m, now at 10m). Sensationalist media. Hope the BBC keeps updating us though!

    Who are you in Discworld?

I knew I was going to get this one

    Problem with my descriptions...

What I do is break up the whole moment into seperate instances. So first I'll say that he ignored the comment, why, how it made him feel, then next sentence I'll say that he saw the pouch, what it looked like, describe it physically, try to get the reader interested, then I'll write another...

    Most gorgeous bookcovers

Yeah, I've found the covers quite tempting more than once. Have you read them? Would you recommend them?

    Should the Empire Series Continue?

I don't know about more believable, but definitely more imaginative and fun to read about. I'm with you!

    Should the Empire Series Continue?

I think the Empire trilogy is one of his best works too. I can imagine it took a lot of time though, but (having spent my time reading and not writing :p) I really think it was worth it. Are you including the Empire trilogy and/or Magician? What are the other books?

    List of SFF Clichés

Everyone always managed to keep everything they know to themselves when the villain's sidekick, who is renowned for his horrific torture, tortures someone.

    Brokeback Mountain (2005)

I saw it in Canada when it came out there, and went to see it shortly after it opened, so I wasn't really aware of what it was about. I bought tickets without any problem, but I was in Quebec where gay marriage has recently been legalised so the population is maybe more open-minded than where...

    Things I watched this weekend

I watched Constantine too, although I'd seen it before. Which is good, I could look away right before all the gory parts. :p What did you think of the film, weaveworld?

    Please Recommend me a Book

Oh. Well I think you should give Paolini a try. It's not a close replica of an already succesful book (as far as I'm aware!), it's definately got some storylines I haven't seen used anywhere else, so even if it is 'cliched', it's got a hint of originality as well. And that's a really big 'if'. ;)

Hmm, maybe I'm thinking of how you'd say it with an Irish accent then...

    Gemmell Movie?

Well ideally Scotland, but anywhere with highlands, forests etc would suffice I imagine. :)

    Please Recommend me a Book

You could also try Eragon followed by Eldest by Chris Paolini. It doesn't have Vampires, but it's got everything else you mentioned. There is an adventurous storyline, but there's also an emphasis on magic. I'm hesitant whether to say it's cliched or not... what's the difference between cliched...

    House of Flying Daggers

I haven't seen Hero, but I remember being not too impressed with Crouching Tiger. I really like Daggers though, I saw it at the cinema and wanted to buy a huge poster and the DVD when it came out. Never found a decent poster though, and haven't got round to buying the DVD. Did watch it on Sky...

    Oh the joy /sarcasm

I don't think it's boring so much as lame. I have to admit to not really liking any of the characters, and the dialogue always seems too scripted. I've only watched about 3 eps though.

Daughter of the Empire, Book of Dust

Yeah I stopped reading the Rigante series after Book 2 I think. But the Serpentwar Saga definitely has a lot of castles and sieges, I found that a bit tiresome too.

What was the WORST movie you've ever seen?

Re: Worst film seen... I hear ya. At least tell me the original isn't as long!?

Daughter of the Empire, Book of Dust

I agree that Magician was fantastic, but definitely the Empire series as well. I actually got tired of Feist after a while, I'm not keen on sieges and castles and warfare... at least not in book after book after book. :o Read Empire!!! I have wondered if Feist would have been able to write...
