Game of Thrones: 7.04 - The Spoils of War

A young man who can't walk in a cart. Says he's Bran. Nobody ever believes Arya is Arya. The point of her character is that she is always underestimated.

Iron Fist - Netflix most abhorred series by the critics

See, I have heard that complaint a lot. I guess I'm missing why the fight scenes are so poorly done? Is it missing amazing super fastness? Or such? Danny comes across as making it look effortless and I guess I never saw an issue with that? But, keep in mind, I am no fighting scene expert here!

Iron Fist - Netflix most abhorred series by the critics

I am watching the heck out of it so far.... (On episode 5). I am trying to appreciate critics' perspectives, but I don't agree with them. All around, it's fun. I like the story. I am far more into this than I was Daredevil season 2. There is an innocence and fluidity to Danny which I think Finn...

    Setting up a fight?

My measly two cents. Find some writers who do it well. I read Joe Abercrombie and really liked how he wrote action and fight scenes. For me, they are a challenge, but here is my process: I draw it out. Using X's and O's that I "name" and whatnot. I draw arrows and see how the physical space...

25 Reasons Why I Stopped Reading Your Book

I find his tone hilarious and he gets the point across. It may be off-putting to some, but he gets the point across in a vivid way. One can only say, "hey, using 20 adverbs per manuscript page weakens your writing." Chuck can say it in his way and it reads quite clear. And in a way that says...

Feelings of competition with other writers?

I think feelings of envy come up from time to time. We're all human. But in the end, you write for yourself and for your audience. I've really developed some amazing relationships with writers. I suppose you could put me in the comrade camp. I find these folks invaluable.

    Batman vs Superman (2016)

I think I would rather watch repeats of "Housewives of Beverly Hills" over and over again until I start barfing up razor blades than sit through another horrendous movie such as this. No. Just no. Someone needs to ban Zach Snyder from making anymore movies. Forever. I almost agree with Callum...

    A Heroine's Journey

I'd say that if such a model helps you, then by all means. The spirit of the monomyth (at least Campbell's version) is that it's archetypal. We're talking Jung here, not "how to write a story, 101." Regardless of what story you decide to write, we will instinctively meet many (if not all) of the...

    Marvel's Agent Carter

I found it an awesome series. And I also thought it absolutely "lived up" to its great premiere. Not sure what show you were watching. :)

Star Wars episode 7: The Force Awakens

Or, the kid raised on Tatooine who built his own droids, can win the pod-race with a crappy vehicle, enters into a vacant starfighter, joins the battle against the Federation droid control ship in space and destroys it from within, deactivating the droid army. And Jedi mentory-dudes try to...

Star Wars Episode 7: The Force Awakens Thread **SPOILERS THROUGHOUT**

Ren didn't scare me either, but I don't think he was intended to scare. He hasn't completed his training, so he is (in a sense) a bit teenagery in the ways of the darkside, imho. Dude cannot channel that anger and hate like Vader. He's unhinged and maybe that will be part of his training in...

I agree. It was kind of anticlimactic.

Star Wars episode 7: The Force Awakens

    1. I enjoyed the prequels. I didn't LOVE them, but I had a good time watching them. I thought it was a different "era" in a sense in the universe. Things were a bit more shiny, technologically advanced, etc. For example, it was awesome to watch the Gungan battle, to see how another alien race...

Star Wars episode 7: The Force Awakens

The originals were not great feats in acting or storytelling by any stretch. I think folks who idolize those will likely be disappointed, yes. But, they had issues as well. So so so many issues. The thing is that most SW fans know they're not going to get a perfect story, perfect acting, plots...

Star Wars episode 7: The Force Awakens

Cyclical kind of implies that themes will be repeated? The way I've seen some other people talking, though, it's like "OMGZ I gots the nerd rage because this is EXACTLY A New Hope..." And it's really not.

Star Wars episode 7: The Force Awakens

I enjoyed the heck out of it. New feel in some ways, but also reminiscent of the universe I remember loving so much. Definitely a thumbs up here. I didn't think the stories were recycled from A New Hope and whatnot, but rather.... We went with a great crowd. Very lively. Lots of clapping and...

Fancy a critique by Mark Lawrence?

He actually gives some great feedback. I don't know why people consider this harsh? From what I read of the samples he's posted, he is offering solid advice. Tempted to submit myself.
