An Extract from A Feast for Crows

Hi, I'm back...and I'm onto DWD now, so I guess this thread is safe!

    Tailchaser's Song

Well, there's that and the fact that his wife has started following me on Twitter...the wind's blowing from two directions!

WoT Film - good idea/bad idea?

No World of Tanks, but I think that would make a spectacular movie!

    Sci-Fi/Fantasy: Gay characters?

Well, you know what they say...the winners write history. As for us fiction writers, we explore the truth as those as it would have been written by everyone, even the losers. A good writer explores possibilities, and I think better information is found in psychological research (which...

    Tailchaser's Song

Cool stuff! If Tad inspired Martin's world, then I'm in. Perhaps I will be modifying my reading list for what to tackle when I'm done Dance with Dragons in a couple of months...thanks guys!

    Sci-Fi/Fantasy: Gay characters?

I was not suggesting that one should limit their gay characters. Rather, it's important to remember that not everyone is gay, and it's important to be true to reality. I only added that in because I know of a few writers who basically turn their stories into a gay manifesto. By the way...

    Sci-Fi/Fantasy: Gay characters?

I'm all for gay characters if they reflect reality. One must remember the statistics - that roughly one in ten people are gay - so if co-incidentally your main character's gay, then another perspective character happens to be gay, I'm going to wonder why you're introducing gay characters. On...

Stabs in the dark for Winds of Winter Launch

I'm expecting end of 2014 at the earliest. My guess is that George will have the draft sone by the end of 2013, with no unexpected distractions, and given that (the rumor I heard) has him 200-300 pages in, he's about a quarter done. Publication takes usually takes about a year and a half, but...

WoT Film - good idea/bad idea?

I think the Wheel of Time would be a spectacular film adaptation, though it would be very challenging, and easy to ruin. The Lord of the Rings approach would fail, because it would be hard to have fourteen movies that stood apart, I think, but perhaps doing it as a TV series might work. The...

    Which is your Favorite/Best?

I enjoyed them all, but I have to say I enjoyed Half Blood Prince the most (though Deathly Hallows comes close). Rowling's style got richer as she went along, always going into deeper layers, like a series of Russian dolls.

    Tailchaser's Song

I've read a bit of otherland, and always see Tad's books on the shelves, but I don't know where to start with his fantasy. From you guys who have read his stuff, would you recommend starting with Tailchaser's Song? Or is there a better place to jump in, like his later series'? Thanks!

    Otherland

I never got through Otherland, but I remember being quite enthralled by it. It was very detailed and engaging. Definately on my to-read list, though I am curious to see what Tad's fantasy has to offer

A Feast for Crows - NO SPOILERS, PLEASE

I just finished reading Feast today, and actually I thought it was fantastic. Right from the opening, I could tell it was going to be a different sort of novel, not packed with action and tension like books 1, 2 and 3. When I read it, I was on the lookout for themes and symbollism, and it was...

An Extract from A Feast for Crows

Okay! Thanks for the warning. I don't mind spoilers, but within reason - unfortunately, conversation with friends who have read everything has filled in lots of details... If you can post a link to that forum for those who've read feast but not dance, I'd appreciate it!

An Extract from A Feast for Crows

Hi guys, I'm a Canadian fantasy writer in Winnipeg, and I'm new here. I'm a huge fan of George R. R. Martin, and it looks like there's lots of enthusiasts here. Looking forward to chatting about the books. I'll be moving onto Dance soon, and expect I'll have a chance to read a whole fantasy...
