There's plenty to not like with regard to personal preference, but it's expertly crafted in my opinion. While Dany's story does follow a certain line, so does everyone in actual* and imagined history, otherwise you're looking for chaos. Seriously, if it was actually cookie-cutter formulaic...

For me personally- If I've liked the book, but it hits a rough patch for some reason I'll generally try to power through for as long as I can If that fails, or I'm just not getting into a book in the first place, I then put it down and pick it up a bit later, as perhaps it was just my mood...
