I'm listening to Cell (Unabridged Audiobook) by some guy named Stephen King. It definitely qualifies. I'm not the biggest King fan but he seems to clicking on all cylinders on this one. If you don't know what this one is about, everyone with a cell phone goes stark raving mad after they...
Jives, I believe Kath is looking for the classic SF story by Henry Kuttner and C. L. Moore writing as Lewis Padgett. I googled the title but came up with results of the poem and referances to the Padgett story. I'm sure the copyright was renewed on this one and it shouldn't be on the web. The...
Well I started this thread and kind of got busy. Glad to see it spurned some excellent thoughts. Olaf Stapledon is at the top of my list of someone I hear a great deal about but have never read. I've been hearing about this guy in every history of sf book I picked up. I was afraid comments on...
We've all have our favorite SF authors and some of them might be quite famous. Some may have been famous and now have fallen from grace.
And others may never have been on top of the best SF authors, ever. Who do you think is nearly forgotten and should be immortalized, or at least given...
Has anybody read Lovelock by OSC and Kathryn H. Kidd? It was suppose to be the first book in a trilogy. The book was excellent. Definitely his must underated book. Wyrms is another excellent book that doesn't seem to be discussed much.
What most people mean when they say audiobook is a single narrator reading the story with no sound effects. A decent narrator will adopt different voices for different characters. There's also multi-cast recordings which will usually use a single person for the narrations and different voice...
I believe I saw a Twilight Zone episode of this in the 90's (not the classic series) and thought it was really good. I believe the SciFi channel did a TV movie of it a few years ago, and I think this may be the one you're referring to. I enjoyed it for the most part, but they added some...
I've read a lot of Silverberg. His earliest stories and novels are okay. He was mostly a hack in his early days but a professional hack. Of his early work Recalled to Life and Invaders From Earth and Masters of Life and Death are considered his best novels. I recently reread Master... and found...
I'm curious about what doesn't translate well. Some obvious things are books with diagrams that are necessary to the story. Also a book like Alfred Bester's The Star's My Destination uses patterns of typography to create interesting effects (I know there's a term in poetry for this but I don't...
I like Heinlein but I hated this book. It seemed to try to proselytize me into liking flogging. I found that the straw that broke the camels back, or the spine of the book. I actually put the book down with only about 50 pages to go because I felt like I was being hit over the head with...
Stolen - Philip K. Dick Robot
I found this post on Slice of Sci Fi. I can't post hyper-links yet, so here's the whole article:

He experimented with LSD but his favorite candy was amphetamines. I'm current reading Divine Invasions by Lawrence Sutin, which I believe is the definitive bio on PK Dick. He didn't care much for LSD although he took it. He had some definite mental issues that I'm sure the drugs acerbated.
I started with Equal Rites and found okay and probably wound not have read another Pratchett book until I found Moving Pictures as an audiobook on tape. It converted me instantly. I've read about 10 of the Disc's books since and really liked:
Moving Pictures
A Hatful of Sky
Guards, Guards...
What are your favorite audiobooks? Here some that I can think of off the top of my head. They are all unabridged. Some of these can be found at audible.com.
The Speed of Dark by Elizabeth Moon
Hatful of Sky by Terry Pratchett
Moving Pictures by Terry Pratchett
Double Star by Robert Heinlein...
