    Discussion -- August 2011 Challenge

Re: Discussion AUGUST 75 Word Writing Challenge Using that logic, would it be fair to suggest that beefed-up, angry-looking guys are 'near porn'?

What was the last movie you saw?

Just been thinking, how can this thread be relevant when there's so little time to do anything else but click, refresh, on my browser every other minute on this forum. :P

    Discussion -- August 2011 Challenge

Re: Discussion AUGUST 75 Word Writing Challenge Honesty, as a theme? Sounds interesting. Ooops, I think I misread what you said. Ummm, her moustache? Hey, I'm not saying women can't have pride in their facial growth ... ;)

    Best game trailers

I have to agree, that Dead Island trailer is something special. Perhaps, it needs to be regarded on its on merits without even being part of an actual game. A shame, for sure, but I'd take nothing away from the people who put together that trailer. I suspect it'll become a benchmark or template...

How much time do you spend reading Literary classics versus Genre fiction?

Anti, you might like Kate Grenville's, Secret River. I did, very much.

Are Books Dead and Can Authors Survive?

It's such an individual choice as to what route to take with what you've created. As a musician with a self-published CD, the only way I make money is to perform. Sure, if I'm picked up by a big company that does all the promotion and publicity of my product I can spend time doing other things...

Which book would you like to see made as a Film?

No more superhero adaptations, please! At least give it a break for about 10 years and then re-think your strategy, Hollywood. Okay, got that off my chest ... If I may be so bold, I'd love to work on a remake of Silent Running. I've watched that movie many times. Even though it's slow and...

What was the last movie you saw?

IMO, the best SK book to movie was Stand By Me (or have I got the writer wrong?) Just to add weight to my opinion. Stephen King indicated, on the special features of the 25th anniversary Blu-ray set, that this is the first successful translation to film of any of his works.

    Ideas please guys!

If it's images you're after, why not spend a few minutes on Google Images. I suspect you'll get a few thousand hits. If you need to print out the pictures make sure you set Google Images to search for Large images. You'll get fewer results, but the quality will be much better. An example of a...

    Scriptwriters' Club

Celtx is great. Easy to use (once you understand the simple formatting required) and very cheap (free). A screenwriting program can really speed up the writing process, so it's of real value to spend a little time getting used to the program (it's really not a steep learning curve). Sure you can...

When it seems like things can't get much worse ...

Doctors are often wrong, that's why they call it a General Practice. My brother-in-law is a doctor and, if it helps, I can get some advice from him. My sister, his wife, is also a medical practitioner and she suffers from chronic pain, which might suggest that they have some understanding of...

would this be a good pc to buy.

Looks like a toss up between Intel and AMD. Both powerful machines. I'd stick to the Intel machine at $52 more, but that's just cos all the advice I ever get is stick with the market leader, especially if you're a bit of a noob. Of course, I'm no expert and I'm sure there are a few folk here...

Are Books Dead and Can Authors Survive?

It's not wrong. As individuals we all have different needs. Of course there's a part of me that would like to be 'famous' and regarded as someone with something worthwhile to add to the ticker-tape of human endeavour, but, as an individual, my needs are few. I'm not suggesting that I don't have...

War buff in need of your answers

War is wrong on every account, but if someone is enthusiastic (i.e. Great excitement for or interest in a subject or cause) doesn't mean they condone it. I share a certain enthusiasm about the nature of warfare because, as a writer, I embrace conflict. I also have an interest in psychology and...

    Sci-Fi vs Fantasy

I agree with thatollie, but then I have idealistic, non-capitalistic and rather shape-shifting atheistic views, which are, btw, all liable to change.

Are Books Dead and Can Authors Survive?

I write because it's a fight I'm pretty good at. It's also the reason I play table tennis. But I don't write fiction or play table tennis for money, which is not to suggest that I wouldn't be grateful for it. It's just not my primary (or secondary) motivation or expectation. Yes, I live in a...

    Mary Sue test...

Hmmm. Don;t know about this test. I did my best with my main character and she scored a 17, which is borderline for needing a bit of spicing up. Sure, this little test gave me a few moments to think about my main character, but it really didn't feel that satisfying. :(

    Metamorthosis - help!

Another interesting literary area to explore are the myths, especially the Greek/Roman ones. I'm sure their covered really well on Wiki.
