300 WORD CHALLENGE -- number 3 — READ FIRST POST!!

Re: THREE HUNDRED WORD WRITING CHALLENGE #3 — Read First Post!! The Statue ‘Stay here’ they told her. They’d be back soon. She just had to wait. The untended gravestones made her sad. No-one was looking after them. She knelt in front of one particularly overgrown grave and started tugging at...

    Discussion -- 300 Word Challenge #3

Re: Discussion thread -- Three Hundred Word Writing Challenge #3 I think it's great that we have a 300 word challenge and a 75 word one too. It really helps me keep in practice writing to someone else's idea, and sticking to a word limit. I felt inspired by the picture and it's nice to be able...

    Mixing fantasy and fact.

Pretty sure i know what you mean but could you clarify 'stuff' for me please? My plan is to have my main man exploring a lot of this world with his fellow adventurers :)

    Mixing fantasy and fact.

Ok, so my book is set on a made up world, but set in a time very similar to our medieval england period. My plan is to have the dominant religion very similar to paganism, so there are many gods and festivals. It is meant to be generally more of a festive and colourful world. The main plot...

    Cities in your mind.

Ok, think I'll attempt to draw a rough map. Should be interesting, I can't draw to save my life ;-)

    Cities in your mind.

Ok, I'm sure this must have been asked before, and if so I apologise. In my book the characters are going to travel to lots of different places. There is one city in particular that I think will play an important part. My question is, when your characters are wandering around a city, how well...

    three ingredients for good fantasy

If you're writing it for yourself then you can do whatever you want :) If however, you're writing for a larger audience then big surprises like that may not go down too well ;)

    1700s britain fiction.

Hey all, As part of my research I'm looking for historical fiction novels set in Britain in the 1700's, preferably about ordinary people as opposed to books focusing on wars, rulers etc. Anyone know of any?

Does anybody actually enjoy these books? (Spoilers)

The series took me several goes to get through, but that's only because I felt it was a big commitment to stick to, and other books kept distracting me, but I have now read all of them and they will remain, I'm sure, one of my all time favourite series. The series has also been a big influence...

Creating fantasy worlds using actual history.

I think that's maybe what I liked about the WoT world, it made a good backdrop for the story and the characters rather than being the main thing. I kinda like the idea of quite a simpler world than our own, and I always like fantasy books set in that kind of world. What i can't work out is what...

Creating fantasy worlds using actual history.

Hi all, I'm trying to write my own, modest little novel, but I am having a little difficulty fleshing out the world. I will admit to being very influenced by The Wheel of Time series, and I want to set my world in a similar way, ie, horse and cart, villages and cities, taverns etc. It...

First attempt at writing a fantasy story.

Hi :-) Thanks for your post. Best of luck with your novel. I'm sort of using this worlds history to influence and create my fantasy world. Currently researching ancient and modern festivals to help me possibly create some of my own, or versions of existing ones. At the moment I only have odd...
