    Hell On Wheels marathon tomorrow

I'd call it very good but not quite great, if one uses the standard of The Wire, Breaking Bad and Deadwood, etc. But it's getting better and I'm glad it's on. As for Rubicon... I feel your pain. That one had real potential!

    Terra Nova

You can pretty much RIP this one. It never got good numbers and it costs a fortune (I'm not commenting on the quality... exactly... but let's just say it could've been a lot better). Understand they still have the actors on contract due to the long lead time needed to make each ep. But I'm not...

    Cowboys and Aliens (2011)

Somebody in Texas is suing the producers for copyright infringement: http://www.deadline.com/2011/12/cowboys-aliens-sparks-lawsuit-by-author-who-published-story-with-same-title/#comments I note that his comic by the same name came out 5 years AFTER the original 1989 screenplay that's posted...

    Cowboys and Aliens (2011)

I admire your courage. I was too chicken. But then I was at a screening and it would have been impolite.

    Cowboys and Aliens (2011)

Ask the people who put up the millions for the budget and P&A if they're putting us on. Or the vast majority of filmgoers who've voted with their feet, i.e. stayed away. There are very good reasons why it flopped. And sure, you can say about any movie shy of The Godfather and a few others that...

    Cowboys and Aliens (2011)

Thanks, Dave. You said it perfectly, and in far fewer words than I! And I agree with your list for the most part as well. C&A had a great setting, a great dog, some good actors and sets and a pleasant score... that's about all I can say in its favor. They would have done viewers a big favor if...

    Cowboys and Aliens (2011)

I'm glad you enjoyed it. However it's not a question of realism but coherent drama, in which Rule #1 is that your bad guy has to have a compelling reason to be bad or nothing works. Moreover, when you're spending $163 million to make a movie, and perhaps as much again to market it, you should be...

    Cowboys and Aliens (2011)

Wasn't anyone else bothered by the fact that this galaxy-trotting, warp-drive (or whatever) using, thought controlled weapon-inventing civilization (the members of which nonetheless act like slavering hyenas... and stupid hyenas at that) had come umpteen light years to a planet riddled with...

    Cowboys and Aliens (2011)

re: "Cowboys and Aliens" 2011 Ah so. Thanks for that. As for Starbeast's comment: glad you enjoyed it. Once it's opened abroad - I think it's the 18th in the UK - then we can discuss further!

    Cowboys and Aliens (2011)

re: "Cowboys and Aliens" 2011 Sorry for the running-on posts, can't seem to figure out how to edit my last one. Believe this hasn't opened internationally yet so I won't comment on any plot elements for my friends in the UK who haven't yet seen it. Suffice it to say it's dying here. I'll look...

    Cowboys and Aliens (2011)

re: "Cowboys and Aliens" 2011 Reviews are running 45% positive at rottentomatoes. This is up from 43% yesterday. Believe most if not all of those are US reviewers. I still say, they ripped off that script something awful.

If you could live in any house/castle/space station from any film, which one?

During the original airing of GI people (this is Americans, mind you... of which I am one) were literally, actually writing in to the network demanding why they didn't contact the Coast Guard to rescue those people. Yes.

    Cowboys and Aliens (2011)

re: "Cowboys and Aliens" 2011 Yes, that's the official version of events. My point was that I felt the graphic novel mentioned there was derivative of those other two sources, especially the early script, to the point where I smell a rat. If you're interested here's an interview with Tom...

If you could live in any house/castle/space station from any film, which one?

Hah. Well I guess we do share some enthusiasms. As for Data, as I recall there was one episode where it was more than implied that he was, ahem, fully functional (though not perhaps for actual reproduction). But heck, he's a good man with a calculation or in a bar fight so I'm keeping him.

If you could live in any house/castle/space station from any film, which one?

    1. Me 2. The Enterprise 3. All-female crew, and they're devoted to me. 3a. Ok, we can keep Data. He's useful.

    Falling Skies - Season One

I found the pilot oddly non-compelling. There's nothing I haven't seen before, and the pacing was lackluster. I'll continue to watch, mainly because there's little else - at least on American television, but I'm not holding my breath.
