Star Wars episode 7: The Force Awakens

I liked it. The humour, action and new characters carried me through the elements copied from ANH and the obvious geographical and political plot flaws. On Poe, my issue with him was that he was paper-thin, a hero-by-numbers without any depth who is presumably set to be the Han-type in the...

The Word that Must NOT be Spoken

It's the top swear word, all right, but it is just a word. In real life it's used fairly frequently around here, sometimes as a term of endearment, towards men and women. In writing, there will be a time and a place where it will be appropriate to use. My thinking is slightly coloured by the...

300 WORD WRITING CHALLENGE #19 -- VICTORY TO MOSAIX!

Beneath The Stormgod's Eye The stranger lay naked, pale and motionless in the bone-dry waterhole we’d thought would save us. "A northman," Azir said, poking a wound. "We must leave him." Sholab glanced up at me from her grandfather's side, her sunken eyes pleading. "No, sweetness," I...

    Which Epic would You Read?

Congratulations! The only one I've read is The Stand, which I found good but not spectacular. I voted for Shogun. You could try something by Leon Uris either e.g. Trinity.

Why Has No one in Hollywood Tried to adapt any of Banks Culture Novels ?

I'd love to watch them but there would be a couple of issues. It would take an absolute shed-load of money to do them right, and they might not have enough crashbangwallop to bring in a mainstream audience, à la Star Trek or Wars. It would also be difficult to convey the humour and world-building.

Star Wars episode 7: The Force Awakens

Have to say I'm underwhelmed by the trailer. Desert planet, youngsters destined to play a pivotal part in history, gravel-voiced baddie in a mask -- it's all very familiar and I didn't see anything new or interesting in it.

September 2015 75-word Writing Challenge -- VICTORY TO CULHWCH!

Dead Presidents Implant itches like crazy! "Do it," Lincoln says. Andrew Jackson glaring at me, all puffed-up white hair. "Make it right, son." Shut up, AJ! Kids everywhere strung out on implant infoload, zombified, psychotic. A digital plague. My fault, I know, I know – shoulda done...

    Injuring my character

As said, a torso wound could well be fatal unless it's pretty superficial. I vote for a good fleshy stab in the thigh -- if it avoid major arteries, they'll barely be able to stand but can crawl away and hide, and live with appropriate treatment at a later point.

    Write First,Think Later?

When your muse speaks, listen to her and write. Don't go on asking silly questions about what route she took to your house or what she had for breakfast, or you'll look up from your laptop and find her chair empty and your front door open.
